How well do we match up with USM?

Especially with whoever they have on the bump tomorrow?
I know it took us til the 8th to wake the bats up but in the end we got the job done.
What can we expect tomorrow against the #11 overall team??

Pitching has carried them all season. We’ve got our work cut out for us.

All I know about them is that they have good pitching. I'm not sure how their hitting is, but I'd assume we have a much better offense.

Floyd needs to be on. They didn’t hit the ball too well today against Army.
But their pitching is stout. We won’t be scoring 14 runs tomorrow. But we have Reyz ready for relief, Gervase can still close.
We got a good chance.

The fact that they only scored 2 on Army is a good sign. I know they have really good pitching, but LSU is very hard to shut down right now, so I think they will need to score some runs too.

LSU outscored Q1 opponents by an average of 6.1-5.67 in weekend games, but inconsistency led to a 10-14 record in those games. USM was outscored by Q1 teams by an average of 4.6-4.8 and went 5-9. LSU has the better offense and USM has the better pitching, though it’s not as formidable as their overall ERA would suggest.

USM fan here.
Our pitching has been dominant against average to bad teams. They have still been pretty good against good teams (hold them to well below average) but not dominant enough to carry us. We will have to score runs. Speaking of which…
Our offense is in a weird place since the conference tournament. This is a lineup that has always been prone to slumps. But when we’ve slumped in the past, you would see few hits (so low average) but still hitting doubles and home runs (so slugging it pretty well) and able to draw some (not a ton but some) walks. Over the last 5 games, we are hitting at an okay average but getting nothing but singles. Mediocre average with no slugging and not drawing walks is not a good way to score runs.
So, what you saw yesterday and what we have seen over the last 5 games is not characteristic of our offense—even when slumping—but it’s where they are now.
Offense is highly dependent on home runs.
Probably the guys to watch for us at the plate are:
-Paetow (RS freshmen with a ton of raw talent)
-Dickerson (SS and #2 hitter—average and doubles)
-Ewing (sat out with a broken hand for a few weeks—came back early and was initially swinging it really well but in a big slump now)
-Wilks (sophomore…big time recruit out of HS…really strong kid but in a slump. Also sat for a few weeks with a strained oblique. Chases bad pitches.)
