My son is going to summer camp and every morning I drop him off, I reminisce from my time at summer camp during the mid 90s. I went to the BREC on north Sherwood when it was still good and I had a blast. We played every morning and had a field trip to the roller rink on Florida blvd I think when it was still open, arcade at celebration station, movies with popcorn and a coke at Broadmoor Theaters, bowling, swimming, Mr Gattis, and so on….

We all made a lot of friends and the councilors were cool. On Fridays, we would watch movies and watch Heavyweights, The Sandlot, Mighty Ducks, Goonies and so on… I told my son to enjoy his childhood because before you know it, you will be an adult, have responsibilities, and pay bills.

It didn’t matter how hot it was as a kid, we were always outside playing basketball or doing something. Now, when I cut the grass,

I miss the feeling of walking into Blockbuster on a near 90-degree summer night. I don't know why this in particular stuck with me, but it has

We would cruise the neighborhood on bikes harassing the Schwan's and Kentwood man, or we would go into the swamp. Good times

Nothing like a blockbuster punch hole card where after the 5th one, you get a free movie or game!

Going to Blue Bayou before it got super trashy.

Or maybe it was just as trashy and I was too young to notice.

Early 90’s summer’s biggest decision was do you get a 10k or a quickkick lemon lime when you rolled up to the convenience store on your bike?

Same, kinda. Antioch but I knew most of the people beforehand. The no field trip days when it was hot as frick and the huge fans in the gym just threw more hot air at you sucked. Everything else was fun as hell.

Sounds like a blast. I remember the sports camps and family vacations. If my parents and siblings were gone I would ride my bike to my grandparents house cause they had cable. Watched many many cubs games are with my grandpa and sports center over and over. Life is good.

I’m sad this whole genre of movies is dead, not sure why Hollywood can’t make just lighthearted funny movies with younger actors that can entertain parents and kids
