Saw the inflatable mentioned, but does anyone know the type? Was it manual or automatic? Personally I don’t see why anyone would use the manual, but they are out there. We put our autos through the ringer and as long as you maintained it properly, it was going to inflate within seconds of hitting the water. And had to be submerged, no rain or water hose was setting it off.

I've got no clue on the brand he had, but one common mistake I saw a few times on Lone Star Law was people not knowing the vests had to be "activated" by fully attaching the oxide tank or by pulling a tab inside the vest. I know it might be common sense but if it helps one person know about it it's worth mentioning.
