I believe it’s possible it never started out as Payton not liking LSU players. But then he heard rumblings, possibly even from here…… and said frick it. And he went ahead and rolled with it out of spite. He has that type of personality. Not very likely but I’m just throwing something out there.

That is very possible. It's not like he passed on a Burrow to take on Tua. 9 times out of 10, when the fanbase is clamoring we should have drafted XXX, the team ended up drafting a player at another position. We will never know if that LSU player was downgraded because he went to LSU (doubtful), was at a position that the team didn't think was a "need", or just had a bad interview and was a little further down the charts.

Sure, as fans we will always say we should have taken Queen/CEH over Ruiz. But, for some reason they felt Ruiz would be worthy of that pick and we all know how much they valued the interior OL; especially w/ Brees

If anyone actually believes CSP made personnel decisions based on anything other than giving him the best chance to win football games, then idk what to tell them.
