What laws would be violated? Is playing on tour a right or a privilege?

That's debatable.

The Player has to pay an entry fee, pay his own expenses and play well enough to stay in the top 125 to keep his card.
Most of the time they are obligated to play in the Pro-Am and attend media events.
Should Phil have kept his mouth shut ? Maybe so, but Phil has always spoke his mind good or bad.
I doubt he thought it would have created the fire storm that it has.

The PGA tour is trying to play a capitalist game against a massively funded organization hell bent on taking market share even though it will lose money in the short term and may take decades to earn a profit, and they will lose because these pro golfers at their core care more about making money than winning titles. I don’t know if it will be good for golf in the long run but the PGA tour will have to shed the weight of the bloated schedule and beef up purses in the bigger events to keep players involved. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

I think it will probably end up in court. They will rule on whether the Tour can dictate to players where they can and can't play and under what conditions.

I am well aware of how the tour operates. However, you in no way answered my question.

Theory?? I'm not aware of any theory. I think a group of players will consult with attorneys and determine if it's worth taking the Tour to court.

You give new meaning to the word clueless. Keep racking up those down votes.

You have to have a legal theory to bring to court.

Yea, sure it has. The closest you would come to genius is finding it in Webster's dictionary.

I am a lawyer. The legal question is not can the Tour dictate when/where players play because that’s not what they’re doing.
The question is can the Tour decide who it allows to participate in THEIR tournaments/ have a tour card to which I think the answer is yes. Just like many other pros that simply aren’t good enough/haven’t qualified yet can’t play in a tour tournament (yes I know there are exceptions) they can dictate other requirements.
The tour isn’t telling golfers where/when to play. Anyone is free to go play in the new tour if they wish. They just give up there tour card which is issued by the tour.
If the tour doesn’t have this power where does it stop? Should I be able to show up and pay the entry fee and play in a PGA tournament? Of course not, but that’s what some think these players should be able to do simply because they’re good golfers.

Yeah probably.
Go look up the history of indycar/cart etc. Lots of simultaneously competing leagues at "the same level."
I'd be happy to see the PGA pressured into changing, but it'll have to fracture and reform before that happens. Just like what is now known as indycar.
