They are in the yards in Newport News, Virginia (aka Bad Newz). It’s a shithole that I grew up in and left the week I graduated high school. The way the Navy treats their people comes to a head during extended yard periods. Unpopular stereotype is that younger people nowadays are a little more fragile.

Been there done that. It sucked.

That being said, young people today are more fragile imho.

It is probably a combination of the two.

Looks like there's one person in this thread who actually knows what they're talking about.

This ship is docked in one of the worst parts of Hampton Roads and Sailors are having to walk miles from the ship to their car(which many are having to live in). The one's lucky enough to live on the ship are rewarded with power outages and an issues with running water. Conditions for those sailors are awful and it's 100% on the navy.

We treat some prisoners better.

I will tell you exactly what’s going on because I spent two years of my life in the yards on a carrier. Basically it’s a high stress environment and you combine that with a lot of the crew having to stay onboard either on ship or in a barracks barge people will crack. Having said that I was in reactor department so we are used to long hours and hard work. Most if not all these suicides aren’t coming from that department. Most of the other departments aren’t used to living in conditions like that.
