Casey White was already serving time for a 2015 crime spree that involved home invasion, carjacking, and a police chase. White confessed to the murder and was awaiting trial at the Lauderdale County Jail when he disappeared.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday said investigators have confirmed through inmates in the Lauderdale County Detention Center that there was “a special relationship” between the two.

“That relationship has been confirmed through our investigation with independent sources and means,” the department said in a statement.
