My son is 5 years old, swings a baseball bat left handed.

Haven’t really gotten him swinging golf clubs yet, but have dabbled a little bit.

I cannot tell which hand he should be swinging the golf club with. I assumed left because of baseball, but he seems to do both sides about the same way with golf club, so it’s hard to tell and not obvious which side he should go? And it looks like he naturally goes to the right.

Any advice on what direction I should point him on with a golf club? Thanks

Lefty swings are beautiful. Tougher on equipment choices.

I know a 9yo Lefty with a hole in one and albatross. He grew up using US Kids gear.

Most courses set up hazards to affect the righty... I read that on the internet somewhere... so it's true

I have a righty and a lefty... and both are doing pretty well... USKids has some really solid lefty clubs.. but as soon as he is able to.. I highly recommend the Ping Prodi-G sets for juniors if he is serious.. they will even recalibrate them for free once so it's like getting two sets for the price of one.. they don't just reshaft.. they will redo the angle of the heads as well.. they do a really great job with them.

I can't recommend them highly enough.. PING ProdiG and that's what my lefty plays with.. she will be transitioning to the Titleist Irons (for adults) soon.. but those clubs were tremendous for her...

at age 5 my biggest suggestion for you is to have him hit water balloons... that give him sufficient incentive to swing well to destroy those things.. you will get the best performance with those and use those to hammer home the fundamentals of the swing.. and we didn't focus on putting at all till age 7... just swing...

Interestingly, Hogan was left handed and played right handed.

I do too, so 50% of the time, it works every time.

All things being equal, let the dominant hand be the lead hand. More control!

I played baseball, batting from the left side. It really wasn’t a problem playing golf right handed.

Your mileage may vary

Me: write right, throw right, bat right, left hand shot in hockey, golf right.

Oldest son 19: write right, throw right, bat left, left hand shot in hockey, golf left.

Youngest son 5: write right, throw right, bat left, left hand shot hockey, and he's golfing left.

I've tried the youngest to golf right but he's most comfortable left

Daughter 8 is the same as me. She shoots left in hockey but hates the lefty golf clubs and prefers right.

Everybody is different.

Back in my baseball and modified softball days, I hit both right and lefty. I'm naturally a righty tho.

I couldn't imagine trying to hit a golf ball lefty. Never tried it. I think I could hit it, just no idea where it would go.
