Looks like the lineup won’t be changed according to JJ

JJ is in a terrible spot. I do wish he’d sit Thompson but I can also see why he’d just tell him to man up and either keep making an arse out of himself or start fielding ground balls. We should not be in this position personnel-wise, CPM couldn’t have mailed it in more in recruiting when was on the way out

It’s Johnson’s job to put the in the best possible position to win games. Thompson is costing you games. Why does Thompson get so many opportunities when he continually fricks up?

Thompson is in quicksand right now. He’s pressing so much that you can see the tension even through TV.

He better get out of it quick. We really have no choice but to play him the next two games.

Why is that?

I kind of feel like JJ missed an opportunity to low key call out thompson to the media Saban style.

I mean yeah he did. But why don’t we have a choice but to play Thompson for the next 2 games?

He specifically named their SS when talking about defense losing the game. I don’t think that’s low key calling him out. It’s right on the nose.

No you do have a choice the coach is just not making the change. You actually have a couple of choices.

I don’t think we have a better healthy option to risk an experiment with in a winnable series. Just mo

Good. Didn’t watch the press conference. Just read the tweet. He needs to.

The only option is Doughty to SS and Bianco or Merrifield to 2B.
He tried Cranford at SS midweek and he looked awful.

Because our only other option is to start Cranford at SS. That doesn’t give us a better chance to win games. When you bench someone, you need to be able to replace him with someone presumably better, not worse. Cranford is much worse at the plate and hasn’t done great defensively either when given the opportunity. So you take out a .300 hitter who’s struggling defensively to replace him with a below average fielder who can’t hit either? Not seeing the gain for the team

It’s not a risk. Thompson has been the worst defensive player all year and just lost us game 1 of this series.
Posted on 4/14/22 at 11:37 pm to lsufball19
Then put Doughty back at SS and Merrifield at 2B

Merrifield’s fielding % is worse than Thompson’s believe it or not. And he’s looked lost at the plate
Bottom line, we have no good defensive options at SS.

Doughty has had issues as well. I’m just not a fan of changing things that drastically in the middle of a winnable sec series. Unless you’ve seen reasons why it’s a much better move. Not just a different one.

Thompson needs to sit but not just to try someone else. He needs to sit because he’s mentally fricked right now and sitting a few games is the only thing that hasn’t been tried, presumably, to break him out of it.
In the end he may just not be a good defensive infielder, but taking a seat to put things in perspective for him is the only way to find out at this point. Otherwise it’s just going to keep snowballing every time he boots an easy play.
