Here's a pic of a couple new visitors to the back yard this morning. I recognize the rose breasted grosbeak on the right, anyone have an idea of what the yellow guy on the left is? An immature Tanager of some kind or ?

What are you feeding them?
standard stuff - black oil sunflower seeds, various (unsalted / unflavored) peanuts, suet blocks etc

It was definitely a rare sighting for me as well, I've seen a rose-breasted grosbeak before (last year) during migration time, but never had any of the various Tanagers come through.
Also had some blue grosbeaks as well but wasn't able to get any pics before they flew off.

Maybe it's just me but as I get older I'm starting to enjoy fixing a drink and looking at the birds and animals off of the back patio.
We have see several redbirds, bluebirds and other animals.
I'd love to see this yellow one!

Do you make your own feeders? What kind of cables are you using to hang them with?

nothing custom, just standard Amazon / Tractor supply stuff.
Nature's Way Bird Products CWF3 Cedar Platform Tray Bird Feeder
I've found that using the open style tray feeders like this one, and the bigger metal ones seems to attract more birds than the tube style feeders. We get woodpeckers, blue jays, and other larger birds as well coming to these to grab whole peanuts, hit the suet blocks etc.
I've seen the following species on / around it:
Northern Cardinals
House Finches
Carolina Chickadees
Carolina Wrens
Tufted Titmice
House Sparrows
Starlings (unfortunately)
Northern Mockingbirds (total dicks, very aggressive)
Brown Thrashers
Blue Grosbeaks
Mourning Doves
Red Bellied Woodpeckers
Downy Woodpeckers
Blue Jays (for whole peanuts)
I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but we're pretty lucky in our area to be right near some major swamps / wetlands / flyways so we get lots of visitors throughout the year.

Same here. Chickens are enjoyable to watch as well.

The tuffed titmouse is the one you hear all turkey season.

Rodents don’t feast and raid that feeder?

I made my first bird feeder out of cedar about a month ago. There are a couple doves that are daily visitors. They look like King Kong in Tokyo compared to the other birds. I laugh every time.
... And yes. It does have an Atlas shingle roof.

Has anyone seen robins this spring? I am in NW Florida and haven't seen a single one. What's up with that?
