After he bought the team and changed the name to Pelicans (2013), the return of the musical note was 2016.

I've heard that as a rumor, but I also have from 1st person accounts that Hornets owner George Shinn tried to buy back the Jazz name when he was owner of the franchise, around the time the team switched from teal to the "creole blue". A certain someone with local political connections, who used to be with the team, had actually worked out a financial deal with then Jazz owner Larry Miller to buy back the team name, but Shinn wouldn't/couldn't pay the price.

Only three of their 10 teams have the same color: Mets, Islanders, and Knicks.
The other 7 (8 if you include the suburban New Jersey Devils) all have widely different color schemes.

I still think they should have rebranded as the Krewe and used purple, gold, green as the colors. Have a jester, mardi gras figure as the mascot.
