This. This is why you have the proliferation of turo-fours, bajillion-speed auto transmissions and CVTs, auto-stop engines, and transmissions tuned to shift at idling speeds.

Every single one of these things is a detriment to simplicity and longevity.

It's only going to get worse.

These guys are fricking idiots. Or they just want normal cars to go extinct in favor of electric.

Didn't the CRX get 50mpg back in the day?

It's possible. It just has to be tiny, and probably missing 14 of the 16 mandated airbags and other safety tech.

Cars have gotten bigger, heavier, and more powerful, while fuel economy has stayed roughly the same. A modern Honda Accord gets about the same MPG as a 1988 Accord
