Question about insulation

Putting insulation on ceiling of first floor in a house for basically sound proofing. Would it be best to use R-19 since it’s 6” boards or does it matter?

There's something better for sound. I can't think of the name.
It's called Rockwool

Not really going to help a lot. I did the same thing after Katrina had me tearing out my entire first floor and put in that pink insulation for ceilings between the 1st and 2nd floor.
I even went with 5/8 in. sheetrock for the ceiling too since the joists were not on 16 in. centers in this old house I'm in.
I'm not saying it didn't help, but if doing it again, I'd go with something else because sound does still transfer.

I have a tenant bedroom beneath my bedroom. Rock wool and quiet rock were life savers for sound pre v. Post installation.

Your second story floor joists are only 2x6???

The best thing to soundproof between floors is homasote sound board. And it’s not really close.

I would give up 2" of ceiling height to install something like isotrax. The majority of sound transfer comes from the studs/joists passing the sound from one layer of sheathing to the other. If you get rid of direct contact between the wood and the ceiling sheathing the sound can't transfer.

For a 2nd floor live load like a bedroom, 2x6 joist on 16” centers are good for a 10 foot span.

And how are those transitions to the rooms over the larger spans?

Blocking to support the shallower depth joist. With the cost of lumber right now I'd go shallow where I can but I would never use 2x6s on a floor no matter what deflection I calculated.
