I wanted the opinion of people that are dialed in to college baseball as a whole in the state and in the sec.

First, Tulane looks like two different teams in one. Tulane schedule/results shows a team that’s about as Jekyll and Hyde as it gets. They started the year hot and played some good teams who they really fared pretty damn well against. Then you get last weekend where they were swept by a team in Evansville that can’t be that great based on history, right?

Second, what’s y’all’s opinion on our schedule from here on out. Mainly the sec schedule, we don’t really know much about how good teams are yet, but it seems like our sec slate is as friendly as you’re going to get in this conference.
I’m just basing that on what we know about the sec so far.

Looks like we avoid Tennessee who appears to be pretty good

After money.. we don’t have a dominating pitcher. Will be very hard/close to impossible to win series if we don’t win on Friday night

LSU’s conference schedule is still brutal without Tennessee. Road series at Florida, Miss State, Arky, and Vandy.

Should and will have to at least win all home series if they want a regional.

Well, we don't have another dominant starter. Our bullpen looks like it has great potential between Fontenot, Gervais, Taylor, Collins, Coleman (if healthy), Reyzelman, and Dutton. Then guys like Vietmeir and Edwards can throw some innings.

Not necessarily true. The league isn't littered with first rounders on Saturday this year. There are no Rocker/Leiter duos that are just shutting you down no matter what your lineup looks like.

Between our bullpen, our bats, and the pitching in the SEC this year, it's not "close to impossible" to take games on saturday and sunday.

ETA: it is important that Money/Floyd are able to eat innings on those days. Don't need them both to go 7, but you need at least one to go 6 if you want a good shot at winning the other 2 games.

It's hard to stay consistent in such a competitive college baseball landscape. You're going to take licks. Just take a look around at even the top teams in the nation. Tulane has a nice team.

Our schedule isn't easy. We're @Florida, @Arkansas, and @Vanderbilt - you have to think Miss St will figure some things out, too, and we have to go there. Any schedule in the SEC isn't easy, though. I don't think SEC pitching will be as tough top to bottom (starter and into the bullpen for 3 days), but that still remains to be seen. Even if not, the better teams will be able to swing it.

I’m really looking forward to tonight’s game to see if we can put together a nice all around performance again heading into SEC play.

I’m not knowledgeable enough to answer your questions.

SEC may be as deep as it has ever been, and that is saying a lot. Below is the average of hitting (on-base %) and pitching (ERA) ranking in SEC from 1 to 14 of all SEC teams. This is based on raw statistics and makes some teams look better or worse than they will likely end up due to strength of opponents before SEC games.

LSU does not play Tennessee, Kentucky, and S. Carolina. The crazy stat is that to this point the defending national champ Miss St. are tied for last with USCe who just beat the previous #1 team 2 out of 3.

SEC schedule will be brutal for all teams, but the Tigers should win more than they lose.

Tennessee 1.5
Vanderbilt 3.0
Ole Miss 3.5
LSU 4.0
Auburn 4.5
Florida 7.5
Georgia 8.5
Kentucky 8.5
Missouri 9.0
Arkansas 10.5
Alabama 10.5
Texas A&M 11.0
Miss. St. 11.5
S. Carolina 11.5

I would say that our starting pitching is definitely below average, however our bats have the potential to be the best in the league 1-9. So hopefully we can score enough to offset our starting pitching.

As of now I would put Tennessee/Vanderbilt/Ole Miss ahead of everyone else. It is hard to judge right now based off the competition every team is playing. I feel like they really don't have that team that will dominate the SEC and get over 20 wins this season. I also don't feel like the SEC is as strong compared to the rest of the country as in the past. Definitely still the best but the margin has shrunk. Think that has a lot to do with how baseball is shaping up with more competitive teams across the country. Will be a really fun year to watch college baseball. I'm ready for conference play to get started across the country and maybe we can revisit this topic in 2-3 weeks when we have more data on some of these SEC teams and other teams across the country vs opponents that are better than what a lot of teams have been playing.

People have mentioned this and it needs to be stated again...there are not many "Friday night aces". Teams with a good bullpen depth, solid defense, and the ability to get to others bullpen will be the most successful throughout the season.

We could see the most parity in this SEC this year that we've ever seen...there's not really one team that's head and shoulders above everyone right now.

Alot of what I said is what BayTiger said and it's worth repeating.
LSU has to win the series this weekend there's just no other way to put it.
