Looking for a charter for lobster diving opening weekend in the keys. This would be for the regular season, not the mini season. Anyone have any recommendations or done this before?

The Flower Gardens reef? We've dove and caught lobsters there before but damn that's a long ways out there.

Bull,
Google fishing/lobster charters in the Keys and I bet you will get a bunch of hits. Some of those guys will charter for that too, not just fishing. I think it was Two Conchs I saw on their fishing show a few weeks ago that they were taking groups out to do it in Marathon.
I went once almost 20 years ago and it was a blast. Went with a friend's dad who had been going down for probably 25 years and he had all kinds of rocks, ledges, etc marked all over the place. We would be in 5-6' of water and he would stop on his mark, drop anchor then we would hop out and find some little small ledge and see lobster antenna sticking out all over the place. It was a pretty damn cool trip.

lobster catching is not painless if done legally. the critters hid in holes with sharp points and feelers sticking out. you are supposed to slid your hand under them grab ahold of the body and pull out. Living 2 years in Puerto Rico I never could grab before they scooted further back in the crevice. ?But I bought a very weak spear gun and never missed a critter. illegal of course
The other thing to think about is the toothy moray eels that hide in the same hole looking for hands looking for lobster

I lived diving for spiny lobsters out in California. I used to go with buddies off of Catalina on a dive boat with SCUBA gear. The spiny lobsters don't have claws. I used to spear fish around Malibu and Palos Verdes. I lived in California for 2 years and that's the only stuff I miss from there.

It's really not that hard. Some get away when grabbing, sure. But that's what makes it fun.
There are other legal means of capture, besides grabbing them. You can use a net or a noose. Problem with spearing them is that you can shoot one with eggs. They get enough pressure down there that those should really be let go.
Morays aren't really worth worrying about. Just look where you put your hand before you do.
OP, work on your breath hold. With training, anyone can have a 3 minute static the same day. It helps a lot.

Having grown up in the lower Keys free diving for lobster is not for the unfit. Two to three minutes below at a time makes for a challenging experience. Even if you're diving bomb holes on the flats.
The first thing you should do is get certified SCUBA.
The second thing you should do (after locating your guide) is adhere strictly to the law. FL Marine Patrol are everywhere and serious about enforcement. I've never known anyone to get off with a hand slap. Personally, I learned the hard way. $500 fine for three lobsters back in 1983 a day before season opened.
Have fun.
