If so, I've heard you can rent the house on Squam Lake where it was filmed. Anyone ever stayed there and caught Walter?

Have you ever heard of golden showers? Based on this post, I think you may like them.

Yep. Watched it several time as a youth in the 80's. Although I don't remember a whole lot of it now.

Been trying to catch Walter for nearly 40 years.

Yes, saw it in the theater when I was probably 5 or so. I've watched it a couple of times in the past several years for nostalgia sake. Good movie.

It might not be the best kept secret in our area, but Squam Lake was indeed the filming location for the Academy Award winning film On Golden Pond. The beloved 1981 film, written by Ernest Thompson and starring Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda, and Katherine Hepburn was filmed on location on both Big Squam and Little Squam Lake. The original house still stands and can viewed from the water if you know the right place to look…

Didn't find Walter. I only went there to cruise chicks and suck face.

What about Shaving Ryan’s Privates?

I took my boat in to Purgatory Cove looking for Walter and ran my boat in to a big rock on the way out.

I was an extra in the filming of that movie.

I always sensed you were a star.
Did they make the mistake of cutting you out?

On Golden Pond is one of those movies from the very early 80s that i always associate w/other films like Ordinary People , which seemed to be HUGE deals back then, won all the awards, but i was too young to appreciate or understand them.. i tried watching Ordinary People in recent years and it seemed extremely slow moving and maudlin, for lack of a better term.. i have a feeling On Golden Pond would be dated and kind of similar, but maybe I’ll give it a watch .

Iconic movie! 10 Oscar nominations, including wins for best actor and actress.
I've visited and done the lake/movie tour. We stayed at the Squam Lake Inn. Viewed actual cabin from the lake only, but I think it can still be rented. Caught a couple of Walter's descendants from a boat.
Unused footage was used later in the opening sequence of Newhart Show.
Hepburn and Henry had never met before filming. She gave Henry one of Spencer Tracey's hats, which he wore in the movie.
Jane Fonda tried to bond with her dad during filming. The movie plot about their relationship was emblematic of their real relationship, which ultimately improved. Jane accepted her dad's oscar for him.
