Week 1 of the Indy 500 had a ton of practice plus qualifying last weekend. The only incidents were Jimmie Johnson and Takuma Sato brushing the wall, but both were very minor.
This week there are two practice sessions for teams to tune-up their race setups; a two-hour session today (going on right now), and a two-hour session for Carb Day on Friday.
They just had their first real accident. A half-hour before the end of today's session, Dalton Kellett lost the rear end entering Turn 1. His car is pretty smashed up but they have plenty of time to rebuild it for Friday. He had just been passed on the inside and was slightly off-line, and James Hinchcliffe mentioned that he probably lifted the throttle, transferring weight to the front of the car, which increases front grip and reduces rear grip. So it was probably a rookie mistake (Kellett is in his 2nd year of IndyCar).

The first of two 2-hr practice sessions this week shows a familiar pattern. Four of the top 5 speeds were Chip Ganassi cars, and the 5th car was Takuma Sato. These top 5 cars are all Hondas and they were all more than 1 mph faster than the first Chevy on the list. A scary sign of how confident Ganassi is with their cars is that four of the five Ganassi drivers ran fewer than 40 laps. Only Indy 500 rookie Jimmie Johnson ran more, but even his 67 laps was a lot less than most drivers. With all five Ganassi cars on the first four rows, and with two former Indy 500 winners on the team to spread their wisdom to their teammates, I think it will be a colossal upset if a Ganassi car doesn't win the race. Among the four highest-starting Chevys (two McLarens and two Carpenters), there are zero former Indy 500 winners. Strangely, the five highest-starting Chevys are all way down in the practice order. The fastest Chevy in practice, Josef Newgarden, starts on the 5th row. I have more faith that he and his Penske teammate Will Power (starting on 4th row) will prove to be a bigger threat to win the race for Chevy than the McLaren and Carpenter cars starting ahead of them.
Practice 8, Monday May 23

It's Carb Day, the last chance to check out the cars before the race. I think the rain delay has cut the total track time from the scheduled 2 hours to 1.5 hours.
At the moment, three Ganassi cars plus Sato are at the top of the speed chart, as they have been for the last two weeks.

They've just had the 2nd crash of the two-week lead-up to the race. David Malukas passed Santino Ferrucci on the inside approaching Turn 1. He had almost completely cleared Ferrucci when Ferrucci turned into Turn 1 and his front wing end plate cut Malukas's right rear tire, sending him into the wall. Three corners are smashed up, so Malukas's mechanics are going to be busy getting the car back in shape.
There's no way Ferrucci was unable to see Malukas, Malukas was almost completely past him when it was time to turn.
Ferrucci has just been penalized with a black flag, he is parked for the rest of the session.

Damn, Colton Herta just got upside down. The car slid to a stop still upside down on the track. Herta was on the radio saying he was fine before it even came to a stop.
On the radio his dad said to stay strapped in and wait for the safety crew. The announcers noted that this is the first time an IndyCar has come to rest upside down since the windscreen has been installed, and how it would be very difficult for the driver to get out on his own.
There's in-cockpit video of Colton sliding upside down. It should be on YouTube and Twitter soon.

None of the clips I've seen so far show the extended footage from the cockpit as it slid to a stop. Some clips show the cockpit just as he goes upside down, but the signal then goes out so they cut away. But the signal actually came back and they showed the rest of the cockpit view later. Someone just needs to splice the whole thing together.
Edit: Here's the cockpit view:

OK we've got a full day of racing with F1, IndyCar and NASCAR.
After the fancy Monaco GP parade, it's time for some real racing.
The Indy 500 pre-race show and race will be on NBC, as well as the NBC Sports and Peacock apps.

Dad and I are here for the first time. My grandfather used to go to the race in the 30’s. Pretty sentimental trip for my dad.
We’ll be back. Amazing experience
