FDA Authorizes New Monoclonal Antibody for Treatment of COVID-19 that Retains Activity Against Omicron Variant
The FDA has issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Eli Lilly’s bebtelovimab for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 adults and pediatric patients who:
Are 12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kilograms (which is about 88 pounds)
Have a positive COVID-19 test
Are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death, and
Have no accessible or clinically appropriate alternative COVID-19 treatment options approved or authorized by the FDA.
Bebtelovimab and Sotrovimab are the only 2 approved MAB's for Omicron and its subvariant. But guess what...you can't get it if you are admitted to the hospital or require oxygen therapy.

Ain't that a kick in the arse.
And last weeks allotment for the entire state of Louisiana was 1200 doses between the 2 of them.
I know...Covid is going away...but if anyone out there has a need I thought this info might be helpful. Mab's work.

Just a little insight as to why you can’t get it if you are on oxygen or admitted to the hospital for covid.
The way the MAB works is by giving your immune system the tools it needs to start fighting. You get a big slug of antibodies all at one time. When your immune system starts putting in work, the outward signs of this include fever, chills, body aches, inflammation, etc. If you are only mildly sick, you will feel like it is getting worse after the MAB infusion for about 12 hours. Ask around, many/most people report feeling much worse after the MAB. Eventually you get better as your body gets the virus under control. If you are very sick, receiving MAB could make this “getting worse” phase so bad that you need advanced care like icu or intubation.
Just for y’all’s though.

What was wrong with the old MABs they pulled off the market?
Nobody making money on them? Patents expired? Generics available?

It says for “mild to moderate” Covid-19. Why would anyone take something they can’t pronounce for mild to moderate symptoms??? How about some Tylenol or Advil and a cough drop?

To keep the disease from progressing to severe symptoms.

No one needs MAB for Omicron, my entire family just had it inluding both 65+ mother and MIL both with prexisting conditions. They were both sick about 2-3 days. Me and kids and wife were sick ONE day.

Monoclonals are what we should have been doing from the get go. This mRNA “vaccine” was a waste of time, money and resources.

My parents are both alive and well in their early 80's...I would push them to getting MAB's because they work. Why risk it?
I wouldn't suggest it to a healthy 20 something.

So they pulled the other 3 jabs that were operating under EU? Because EU is not able used if EFFECTIVE treatment is available.

This part I know and understand.
I had a 44 year old patient who was on day 3 of symptoms and 2 lpm of O2...the hospital refused to give them MAB's because that person had been admitted. That was the only reason they gave. They did that infusion one floor above and wouldn't give it to them. That patient was a prime candidate I believe. Within about 4 days they worsened to the point of being on max O2 via Airvo. The patient got better but spent almost a month at my facility before being able to go home.
I just think all that could have been avoided.

The reasoning was that those were ineffective against Omicron. I really think some cases of Delta were not treated because of this.

Moderna named their shot "Spikevax".
Why not just call it "the shank"?

You don't think that, in some people, this doesn't progress into serious cases?
I have a few ventilator patients right now that would probably argue that with you if they could.

Brandon needs to seize the supply and make sure it goes to the correct demographics.

Sure. A disease that has 0 symptoms to death. What a broad spectrum. Literally covered all the bases. I have a mountain cabin to sell you in south Louisiana if you’re interested.

I've found that a lot of people talk tough about COVID until they get it and start having sniffles. Then they want everything under the sun called in to the pharmacy for them.
I've had COVID twice and have yet to take a single prescription for OTC med for it.

quote:There is a certain segment of the population that needs it, but it's a crap shoot who actually needs it. My entire family and extended family got it. Four had to be hospitalized. Of those, three were released in 4 days. The last one (out of 60+ family members to get it) , didn't get out for 44 days, is on oxygen, physical therapy and pulmonary treatments. He lost 45 pounds off his 189# frame.

Had he received this treatment, chances are, he wouldn't have been so severe, but also, he was an anti-vaxxer and had not been vaccinated, much less boosted.
