I never really considered William the Conqueror to be a Viking. He was a descendant of Rollo, but I think the transition from Viking to Norman had been pretty complete by his time.

I mean none of these people were actually “Vikings” I thought all these historical shows have pretty much made that common knowledge at this point.

He was the direct descendent of Norse invaders, but yes he was born in France so I guess you could say he was French if you wanted to and be technically correct.

It's more than that, though. (For me at least). By the time of William, it just seems to me that he, and others had become more of feudal European noblemen. I don't think he went on Viking raids for instance. It was more like concentrating his power over his duchy and then making on the English throne through some hereditary claim and consolidating it through warfare.

Enough of that, though - how are we going to discuss this show? I'm guessing the entire season has dropped since I've watched the first two episodes.

Are there going to be separate episode threads so people can discuss them as they watch them? Or will it stay one thread and we risk the possibility of being spoiled from someone who is farther ahead in their watch?

William is never considered a Viking or Scandinavian in any sense. Leif Erickson and Harald Hardrada were at least Scandinavian even if they never went Viking. But whatever—these are all fascinating people. Esp Hardrada, who is lesser known but lived an amazing life.
