“LSU today announced a $245 million donation from OLOL and LCMC, the largest in school history. President William Tate wanted to make LSU and the surrounding area a cancer research hub, and he said, “this will change the trajectory of cancer in Louisiana.”

“There’s an athletic component, too, with $85 million designated for clinical technology, facility upgrades and educational programs around LSU athletics.

Tate thanked athletic director Scott Woodward. Brian Kelly is at the announcement.”

This is huge news for LSU and Tiger Athletics. With all these surveys about facility upgrades and opportunities moving forward, the backing is certainly there!

I'm just as excited about it from an academic standpoint. Donations that big to the academic side are few and far between so thats huge news

A friend who is pretty high up in the General finance department told me if the General had to go through one more month under the early covid restrictions where elective surgeries were not allowed they would have gone belly up. He then said that OLOL could go a couple years as usuals if they collected no money at all.

Saw a nugget on Twitter that BK’s wife is big in cancer research. Seems like the family is fitting in well along with BK himself.

Good for them and us. Almost unprecedented in this environment.

The best will be in 2 years when there is a budget short fall and LSU has to cut programs. How does this university constantly have shortfalls. They have raised Hundreds of millions through the LSU Foundation. They should be able to run off of the interest! It doesn't take Catholic High Math to figure out that 30,000 students at a minimum of $3,000.00 a semester is $90,000,000.00 coming in a semester plus donations!!!! Where does it go? Other than Coach O!

What is the rate of pay for those jobs at OLOL vs other Hospitals in Town? Rate of pay for hospitals for those jobs in similar size Metro Areas in other SEC footprint states (Jackson, MS, Little Rock, AR, Knoxville, TN)? to make some reasonable comparisons to similar metro areas in similar states.

Are we still supposed to dislike Tate?

Asking for a friend with a kid in LSU Med School.
