Fowler says it was matter of factly said and not meant with ill intent by RJF. Fowler said it wasn't a cheap shot by Ricky. A little late to portray it like that now though.
ETA: It'd be nice if ESPN ran that retraction, but doubtful.

Fowler seems like a good guy. Seems legit. He asked what an LSU hit would feel like and ricky said a car crash without a seatbelt and then asked if tebow was gonna feel some of that pain and he said they were gonna take him out. but said he said it matter of factly with no ill will.

Sounds like Fowler is backpeddling a bit and it also sounds like ESPN has once again managed to take a small story and act as if it's a huge one.

Fine....but what the hell is a reporter from a Florida newspaper doing contacting RJF for an interview in the first place without Miles' permission?

That's how it sounded to me too. Like people from LSU have already taken it up with him and let him know it wasn't appreciated.

do you think this guy just called up Francois? This stuff is set up through the media relations department. I've called up schools before and gotten interviews with players. It's not really that hard.

People do that when they lie and embellish then get caught.

I wasn't aware that it was so easy. I guess things have changed since Saban left. I'm pretty sure all access to players from any media sources had to be cleared by the coaches. I'm surprised that Miles let him do the interview in the first place.

why? he's not a freshman. media source? they always trade stories with opposing team members.

I'm not saying that im Mr.Professionalism but the bottom line is it's not that difficult to get player interviews. You have to set it up through the sports information/ media relations people. Coaches have a say in it and if a coach doesn't want you to talk I'm sure he won't let you. However, it's not ridiculous to think that a kid can do an interview with a guy, say something stupid, and then see it run in the paper/blog etc.
I find it truly hard to believe that a guy that works for a newspaper would fabricate a story about a College football player? Whats in that for him?
RJF has released an apology/clarification...therefore it confirms that these comments were in fact uttered.

Definately sounds like crawfishing to me... It seemed as if he was trying to downplay everything.

Ok. I wasn't aware that only freshmen were kept away from the media. So we've had sportswriters from the Advocate in BR contacting opposing teams' players for direct quotes in the past?
