I upgraded to the 2gig speed too. I am apparently supposed to get the new router today even though the new service "hyper gig" isn't supposed to flip on until FEB7th here.

I'd imagine that the new router works just fine on the "old" 1gig speeds.

I can make it to work on an old 80s era YUGO, but my Tundra is nicer.

Unless you're running a server at home, what are you guys doing that makes gig or hyper gig speeds attractive?

I do not need speeds > 1gig, however, I was willing to try it for a month. I work from home 100% now and we only stream TV/ipads, etc. plus I have close to 75devices (including 3 cameras constantly streaming).

Do I need more than 1gig, probably not, however, for the extra few $$ a month, it isn't going to break our household income so worth a shot.

Do you own a $40k truck? I see a shite ton of people in the SE USA that own 40-50k trucks and might put 5 pieces of lumber in it during a whole 12 month period. People still buy trucks though.

You should be paying $50.call and ask for the promo price. They've given it to me for the last 2 years.

My bill went up for 1gb. I had a promotional for $71 a month. They just checked and there are no promotions for me , however a specialist is calling me back.

How long have any of you been at $50?

Yeah somehow we're getting it for 50 and I've never asked for anything. Other than a tree taking out the fiber pole I haven't talked to AT&T in 18 months, which is awesome.

Any way to find out when gigabit will be available in my neighborhood? I see them running fiber in areas near us and a subdivision a couple miles away has AT&T gig service but we are still only offered DSL services.

I've WFH for over 15 yrs and we stream everything too. I remember the days when I had to tell my wife that I've got a webex meeting so stay off Netflix for a while because I'd see degraded performance. Seems like that went away once we hit ~20 Mbs. Now with three in the house each of us can stream HD content and you can't tell. I just counted and we have only 10 connected devices, less than I thought really.

Oh man, I can only imagine. We got sent home at the start of the pandemic and now have been working from home for 2 years. Not the biggest fan of it but it does have perks.

I don't think that my house going to 2000mbps will improve much for me but it can't hurt. I'm curious to try out this new ATT router and see if it's better than my OG Google wifi 3 node/puck system. For the most part, our internet is pretty stable but with 3 cameras constantly recording/streaming, on top of 3 kids/ipads, wife on phone, ipad, macbook and 2+ TVs streaming while everyone has ADD, I think a router or mesh system that can stabilize all those damn tasks will show me the greatest improvement.

I'm on year two of the $50/month. I got it as a promo when I signed up, and when my one year was up, I called and they added it over the phone. I plan to do that every year.

I mean, faster speeds sound great, but do you really need it at home? I can download 1000M files in maybe a minute or less, and can stream anything I want on multiple devices at the same time with my 1Gig fiber.

What would I do with more?

We pay $40 a month for 1 Gbps here.

The funny thing is our old house we use to live in now has fiber, just got it was not there when we moved, also the new speed tiers. It is a 1950s to 1960s house too.

It is ok though. We really do not need more than 1 Gbps plus I bet they will sooner or later upgrade all markets that has fiber.

I checked my online account… I already have the 1gb fiber, was 69.99 after year promo ended… I did shop for new plan and only 1gb came up but it was 10$ cheaper, so I just changed it down to 59.99 and it says they are sending a new modem… which hopefully will be updated. I don’t need 2gb for 110$
