If you like classic movies, Casablanca is showing in theaters next week (fathom events).

I really enjoy watching the classic movies on TCM - especially those from the 30's films, film noir and pre-code movies. I can't get into silent movies.

I love James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Joseph Cotton and Claude Rains in particular. Casablanca is coming to some theaters next week and I hope to see it.

Looks like Perkins Rowe will have it here. I saw it at the manship several years ago and was really great seeing it with an audience. I've seen it so many times that I kind of forget how funny it is in parts until a room full of people start laughing.

I'm hoping that someday they bring back the restored version of Lawrence of Arabia. That would be a must-see for me.

Claude Rains

If there could possibly exist a "flaw" in Casablanca, for me it's Rains' character, Captain Renault written in 1942 as a lovable, roguish, and somewhat corrupt police officer played of course brilliantly by Rains, that doesn't seem, at least to me, play as well in 2022.

He was an absolute scumbag that would take advantage of young couples looking to escape Casablanca by sleeping with the wives in exchange for favors in pursuit of that quest.

But in the end, we all still love Louie and the beginning of his beautiful friendship.

Edward G. Robinson

Became so much of a caricature of the '30's and 40's gangster that I never thought that his absolute brilliance was ever fully appreciated. He was imo as good as any actor working in Hollywood at the time.

The Sea Wolf, Double Indemnity, Key Largo, The Cincinnati Kid, Little Caesar...just brilliant.

I see where Casablanca will be playing at Cinemark Perkins Rowe next Sunday and the following Wednesday, so thanks for the heads up.

Sydney Greenstreet is also excellent in the movie. He didn't get involved in film until he was in his 60's.

Could not disagree with this more. One of the greatest characters of all time imho.

Who cares? Of course it doesn’t play well in the age of the habitually offended

I agree, hard to understand why someone would say that Captain Renault wasn't a great movie character.

Bette Davis was notoriously tough on her co-stars, but she loves working with Claude Rains.

I also really enjoyed Rains' performance in Robin Hood.

Just saw it for the first time a few weeks ago, had only seen bits and pieces up until then. Needless to say it’s fantastic
