We ask

So why on earth won't rescues let a family with a child (8 at the time) adopt a small or medium dog???

My wife and I went and met the dogs, then we brought or son to make sure he was good with the dogs, then we brought our current dog to make sure everyone got along. The rescue let us waste all this time knowing all along they were not going to let us adopt this dog because we had a kid.

Adopted two dogs. One from adoptions company that stated mandated home visits etc but once they meet me and the wife they let us take the dog same dog. And then once through a rescue and filled out pre approval app on a Sunday and got the dog same day

I honestly have no clue
We do everything we can to be up front about any issues
All of my fosters go to my parents to see how they do with other dogs, I have my friend swing by with his kids & I’ve gone to the shelter for a “cat test” for an interested family that had cats
With one of my fosters I prayed for someone with an 8 year old little boy, it would have been a match made in heaven, she ended up going to a home with no kids but with a younger dog that needed a companion
