My wife and I both received letters today from the IRS that we each received $500 payments of advanced child tax credit. After receiving them, we were both surprised because neither of us recalled getting these payments. In fact, we earn so much every year that we don't get any tax credits, so I don't know why they'd be sending us any payments, anyway.

We went through our bank statements for the entire last year, and there are no deposit payments into either of our accounts by the IRS/Dept. of Treasury. So now, I have to go try and contact the IRS and ask them to provide proof they made payments into our banking accounts. What are the chances of getting that information?

What a joke our corrupt government is.

We rejected the payments. I sure hope I don’t get a letter like that.

We also earn well over the supposed limit, but we have gotten random “credits” through the year.

I'll laugh if we get one of those. We did not receive the credit because we don't have kids.

My wife and I got the same letters and also didn't receive any payments as we are over the income limit.

Unbelieveable.

They just suddenly appear in your account with no notification, or you get some sort of notification? We've received none.

They are going to have to prove they deposited it with a transaction record. Wanna' bet it went into some now closed account not associated to me?

This is correct, I had no idea I was going to get it, I'm single with custody of my 5 year old son. I got the letter and sure enough the deposit was in there. I would rather get it all when I do taxes but I heard there are several steps to stop the payments so I just let it happen. It's the same either way but now I'll probably have to pay more in taxes when I file.

Those 80,000 new IRS agents must be working already. I received a notice today I underpaid the treasury $10 on my 2015 return.

If I had a child in November, but have received no payments will I get those credits as a tax break when I file?

We got ours in the form of checks. We just deposited them into savings because we have to pay them back in April.

Yes. If you've paid taxes via direct deposit in the past, they just put the payments into your account.

Lololol.

The IRS is already telling tax practitioners that contacting them will be near impossible this year. Good luck
