No, but you can't appendix carry a .45ACP; I can a 9mm. I'd be comfortable with a .45ACP as my nightstand gun instead of my 9mm carry weapon, but I'd not want a .500S&W magnum for home or personal defense. However, I want that .500S&W magnum on my hip if I'm hunting in bear country and that .45 and 9mm left at home.

The right tool for the right job and all that jazz.

home defense - shotgun with birdshot, low power

a 500 S&W will not stay in the same room, it wont even stay in the house, could end up in some other persons house.

decades ago in st. martinville, la there was a murder suicide. 44 mag was used in a brick home. guy shot his wife then himself. round that killed wife was never recovered. round that killed him passed through his chest, 3 interior walls, exterior wall and buried about 1 1/2 inches in a tree outside.

You can and I do sometimes. 1911 commander for the win.

limited to 8 or 9 rounds but you can definitely appendix carry a .45

1911 actually carry very well. The slide and frame are not wide at all.
