I know we have 6 weeks until the first game of the season, but I’m so excited for this team with a new coaching staff and life in this amazing program. Thought I’d give my thoughts of who I think will be in the starting lineup. This list is extremely subjective but wanna see what y’all think it will look like.

C- McManus
1B- Tre Morgan
2B- C. Doughty
SS- Jordan Thompson
3B- Jacob Berry
LF- Dugas
CF- Crews
RF- Joubert
DH- Beloso

Friday: Javen Coleman
Saturday: Eric Reyzelman
Sunday: Best available?

Again, this list is subjective and I also think this lineup can be very fluid and can put guys in different spots on the field and in the lineup that are going to contribute. I also think if Connor Simon and Luke Leto are healthy they will contribute to this team for sure. I firmly believe this is going to be the best lineup in the country with your top 6 hitters being All-Americans. I hope Beloso can get it together this year because if that happens then everyone better watch out. Pitching is obviously the biggest question mark, you have a lot of relievers but I think Javen Coleman takes a huge step this year and becomes the ace of this staff. I’m so damn excited fellas I can’t wait to see the Tigers in action at The Box again. Geaux Tigers

I think they’ll give Devin Fontenot every opportunity to be a starter. I’d probably bet my paycheck he’ll be the opening night starter

So have the coaches been lying in their interviews? He’s projected, by the staff, as a bullpen piece.

Looked more like they were trying him out for a closing role in fall ball.

Not that that’s the end all be all but it definitely seems like they like him in the back end of the bullpen

C McManus but Milazzo will play, you need 2 solid catchers
1B Morgan
2B Doughty
SS Thompson
3B Berry but expect to see him at DH some and then Merrifield could play there defensively
LF Dugas but Pearson is really good
CF Crews but I could see Crews shifted to RF
Bianco could be another option in CF and a UT role
RF Joubert Drost Crews all options out there
DH Several candidates listed above Beloso

Fri Fontenot
Sat Coleman
Sun Hilliard
Look for Riley Cooper to contend for a weekend spot as well
I think Gervase and Reyzelman will both start in the pen with a slew of others and will have to see where the newcomers slot in as well
Reyzelman could be a starting option as they build him up and depending on if Fontenot/Coleman can hold up as starters
I could see Fontenot back to the pen depending on how he pans out

Merrifield at 3B, Berry DH. Drost RF.

Floyd
Fontenot
Hilliard

Coleman might be the best strike thrower on the team but was a little inconsistent in the Fall. He wasnt effective past two innings either. I would like to see him as our Saturday guy but he will have to improve in the spring.

I’m not sure anyone on this staff is going to be real effective past 2-3 innings. That’s troublesome but the good news is we’ve got a lot of depth. Coaching staff is going to have to get creative unless some big jumps are made in the spring.

I know yall are gonna hate this but I really think Milazzo is going to start most of the games. This lineup is going to produce runs regardless and Milazzo is a big help to the pitching staff which is our main question mark. Plus McManus is far more valuable off the bench as a PH than Milazzo would be as a defensive replacement.

Johnson is an offensive minded coach and McManus didn't look bad defensively. I believe McManus jumped him but they should share the weekend. It's a close battle that isn't over yet.

What’s the latest on Ty Floyd? I thought for sure he’d jump into the starting rotation by his sophomore year. I’m pretty sure he was one of our higher rated signees and a big draft risk out of high school.

It's going to be hard for Beloso. Berry will play a lot of DH. Jobert and Pearson are probably ahead of Beloso there as well. Until later in the Fall Beloso was still hitting either center or LF, allowing defenses to shift on him. He did hit some later in the fall towards RF but I think that is still something to monitor as well.

I could see Milazzo retaining his role as primary catcher mostly for his ability to assist the pitchers, but also his general defense obviously. If the rest of the lineup around him mashes then you can afford him, especially if he improves which I'm hopeful for at least some improvement. In either case both will almost certainly get plenty of innings behind the dish.

I think I've said it before but I could see Fontenot in a role not too dissimilar to the guy from arky last year (Simms, maybe). Use him if necessary as a fire retardant Fri or Sat and preferably you keep him in a position where he can start on Sunday for a handful of innings. While I don't think he would be quite as effective in that way Hilliard has shown the ability to be effective as both a starter and reliever. If I recall he's generally better as a starter so he could just end up as the outright Sunday starter.

I'm ready for some baseball

Clearly Fontenot will be given a chance to start. Whether he stays there we’ll see. And I agree Milazzo will start most games at catcher. When you can hit like this team can, get your best defensive catcher on the field.

McManus is no slouch defensively I think he is good enough behind the plate that his bat will put him in the lineup.Milazzo is good defensively but he would need Jay Johnson to work with him an get his OBP around the .340 mark then I could see playing a time share with McManus.Last year his OBP was .220,for an offensive minded coach like Johnson he won’t tolerate production like that for very long

Floyd has been mentioned by coach Kelly and Hilliard as someone to watch this year. I think his fall was a little quiet while he worked on his off speed stuff. I would not be surprised if he doesn't turn into our Ace.
