That news will ruin a Wednesday. I had just imagined he’d passed away from an old age ailment.
Rest in peace, Storyteller.

Brutal. It kind of reframes the Ballad of Forty Dollars and Homecoming.

that's awful.
I wonder if he had a terminal illness.
sad to hear this.

Apparently his wife had died in 2015.
Hall’s work was often intertwined with that of his late wife Dixie, a songwriter and musician who became his collaborator until her death in 2015. From their Nashville-area home known as Fox Hollow (which inspired Hall’s beloved 1974 children’s album Songs of Fox Hollow), the pair wrote and recorded bluegrass music, championing the careers of other bluegrass musicians as well. His last studio album, 2007’s Tom T. Hall Sings Miss Dixie and Tom T., was a collaborative effort between the two.

I disagree. He was 85. Probably in failing health. Went out on his own terms. I'm not saying I celebrate his passing or the actions he took, but I would venture to say any of us would likely not want to linger in his shoes if this is what he did.
Obviously the younger the individual and more complex the issues, I wouldn't be so cavalier about, but this isn't a Cobain or even Cornell situation. This is (without knowing every detail) likely very understandable for many of us.

Tom T. knew more about living than most people ever will. I love his songs and he was a cool guy. I am not qualified to judge or 2nd guess his decisions.

I hear you, I don't know his specifics... But the fact that anyone would feel they'd be better off dead, for whatever reason, is depressing to me..
