TRT Dosing

I'm 43 with total test in the low 400s. I understand that obviously everyone is different but I'm just curious of dosing from some of you that have been on it. Going through my urology clinic, they don't sound like they are going to go higher than 100 mg (sub q) per month. Wondering what some of y'all's levels were/are and what kind of dose it took to achieve it.

Per month? You sure? That’s nothing. I’d go to somebody else.
ETA: I, too, am 43. I think my total t levels were in the low-mid 3s, but I was prescribed 100/week and insurance pays for it.

That's kind of what I figured. There are a couple places in town that I was going to try. Surprisingly though it's the cheapest through the urology clinic, even without insurance.

your doctor is a fricking idiot if he is saying once a month injection. Does he not understand half life?
he is an even bigger idiot for putting you on test for levels in the 400s. Especially if he did not address lifestyle and diet first and retest multiple times. Why did he tell you that you need it? and what are your free test levels like.
you should run and find a new doctor...like now.
but to answer your question
optimal is 2x dosing a week. you just split the dose.
your dose should start at 100mg per week subq and access from there. at 43 you will want to be somewhere in the 700-900 range. you do not want to be at the top of the range now anything below that is kind of a waste if you were feeling bad with levels in the 400s.
overall dose stays the same, you are just splitting the dose due to half life.
and yes i prefer to use insulin needles and do subq. over course i have been on for 6 years now and had to do everyday HCG shots for a year prior to that for the fertility treatment i did. Currently i am injecting into quads just because i was getting bruising in the stomach from doing subq for so long without a break.

that is two good articles discussing the benifits of subq over IM. plus its painless if done with a 27 or 29g needle
some of you guys would be much better off getting the shite off the black market the way many of you are being treated. for fricks sake.

I'm pretty surprised that he okayed TRT if you are at that level. My levels were closer to 100 and I am on 100 mg per week. And I am willing to bet that is what your doctor said and you misunderstood as 100 mg per month. If you are in the 400s a dose of say 200 mg a week is supra-pharmacological.

I didn't know you can do sub-q with testosterone. How in the hell do you draw it in needles that small? Draw needle and injection needle?

Your test is higher than most for your age. Kinda surprised you got prescribed much of anything. You don’t need it, but I’m sure someone will prescribe you more if you look hard enough

you can do that or you can simply run it under hot water or heat with a hair dryer a little then pull out using the smaller needle.
i use 27g to draw and shoot many times as they are fixed. no need to even heat it up with that. takes about 30s to fill .25ml as Im only taking 100mg a week right now due to my own choice(prescribed 150 a week)

I’ve been kicking around TRT for a while. My levels were mid to low 400s. I am reluctant because when I am doing what I need to do, working out, eating cleanly, etc. I feel pretty good. I haven’t been doing that for about 2 months now and just starting to get myself back into the routine. Even when I was though, I saw these guys on T and they were like 20 yr olds with all the energy they had. I go back and forth on whether I should try to get levels up to around 700-800 or if it would really make that much difference. I’m 40 btw

first make sure oyu are getting good sleep. 8 hours every night pretty much uninterrupted. if not fix that first.
fix your diet
start lifting
de-stress your life
get rid of alcohol
and you say they were low to mid 400s...was that one test, multiple test etc
what were your free test numbers as that is really what matters
estrogen
igf
plenty of other things to check before just jumping on.

Working on diet, cut out alcohol just recently though, the sleep and stress are probably the most difficult to tackle. That and getting back in the gym routine. Actually that was the first time I’ve ever had my T checked and he didn’t test for anything else. It was about a year ago also.

try to get other things in order for 3 months min and test again and do a full hormone panel test.
i will say...after years...TRT sucks dick. its great for eneregy and sex drive and all that to be in the 700-800 rather then the double digits around 80 like i was, but ......after a couple of years scar tissue builds up and you start fricking hating the shots. atleast i do.
so my advice is always dont do it just to do it...cause its a lifelong thing.

I appreciate the feedback. I’ve heard a few of those same sentiments you just mentioned which is why I have been so hesitant. Makes my decision pretty easy.

Unless you got awesome insurance, you will be out of pocket with levels in the 400s. I guess you could qualify if your Free T is below a certain level. Did they test for that?
100 mg/month shot would be the most worthless thing you could do, sounds like a money grab honestly.
If they were offering a pellet, that would have made more sense. Although the dosage seems off and pellets are 90 day deals I think.
Diet, workout and sex will get you above 500 easily. Which is in range and normal
If you want to go all in on TRT, like mentioned above, weekly shots and shoot for 900s

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I confirmed that they did order 100 mg once a month. I questioned them on that and the alternative they gave was 50 mg twice per month. Still pointless from what I gather. Going to do some more research and call around. May decide not to do it at all. Really appreciate all the info I get from here.

All depends on his free T. Could be Lowe with 400 total.
Posted on 1/6/22 at 12:57 am to rhanse1lsu
You will feel terrible on that. Need to do 100 a week.

Go find another MD. You don’t have to go through insurance. Test is cheap if you pay cash with Good RX.

Good call.
A point I think we did not mention as well. Your body reduces making natural T, when you start adding T. Once you are on it, like LSU777 said, it is for life if you want to stay a given level. You cannot just hop off and you will be fine. You can hop off, but your T level will crash and take some time to recover.

if they recover. even with clomid, aromitize inhibitor, HCG it sometimes is not gonna happen, especially as you age
