They really need to work on this during the bye week.

Just verifies what most knew. Talent is on the field. But the coverage looks lost at times. WHich is something that can be fixed. Just thought it would have by now.

We're about a week behind. Losing that Troy game was a killer.

It may be negative but its true. Better than the homer articles in the God forsaken Advocate.

Really didn't view it as negative ... it really explains why the defense is struggling. This is the what the no-huddle offense strives to accomplish ... if the coaches don't start getting the plays in sooner, we can expect to see alot more no-huddle in the games to come.

I didn't mean to imply I don't think the article is correct.

It just seems that a large percentage of his articles focus on the negative aspects of LSU, but that might be just because I only see his stuff on here when people link it up.

It is encouraging because it doesn't mean we don't have the ability to defend the pass. We just need to tighten up the communication and learn the formations.

It just makes us sound like we don't know what the hell we're doing. Maybe it's a ploy.

quote:

“Oh yeah, I’ve definitely missed a few coverages,” Jones said. “I miss coverages because I’m running on the field, and my back is toward the coaches while they’re giving the play signal. So I’m running on the field not knowing the play. And the play’s about to go on, and I’m asking somebody else what’s the play. And they don’t have time to give me the play, so it gets mixed up.”

And sometimes, Jones gets mixed up. He knows the play, but he doesn’t know his position.

“I’ve got to learn all four positions, and I’ve got to know which one I’m playing because sometimes it’s difficult,” he said. “I’m at nickel, and I’m thinking dime. Or I’m at safety, and I’m thinking linebacker. I’m at linebacker. I’m thinking safety. I’ve just got to lock in and think what I’m doing.”

I like how Jones says like 5 times that Tepperveto needs to get the play in quicker.

Tepperveto? That is very disturbing. Is our defense being Tepperized this year? I sure as hell hope not.

Hey, at least they know what the problem is and aren't going around saying "what's wrong?"

Florida will try to exploit this, as others have, BUT maybe this is Les' effort to get them to focus on a weakness they can fix. When he has a couple weeks to prepare, he is SOLID!

But if you really look at it, its a issue that can easily be resolved. Its not like LSU has 6 guys back there in the secondary that are horrible. And if you watch the games, they've actually done a very good job in coverage for the most part. Its not like they've been throwing for 400 yards on us. Like the article said, its minor mental errors that gives the offenses big plays. Aside from the blown coverages, the secondary has been pretty lockdown so far this year...

If it continues through Florida, then I think we can panic but not right now. Florida had a MUCH worse defense last year...

What amazes me is Mccray can't cover in the slot but they dont want to take him off of nickel. While at the same time our linebackers can't cover running backs out of the backfield in nickel. Hmmmm

GG gets a bad rap for his stories, but he has the plums to talk about those issues that would otherwise result in you being labeled as a Negatiger or ranter on the Rant.

Think of Pelini, Mallory, and Peveto on Wheel of Fortune. The offensive formations are the puzzles. As the letters are turning, Pelini simply figures out the puzzle sooner than his former coaches.

Pelini's puzzle solution was 20 yards of cushion in a zone every time so i would hope that he could get it quickly.

Maybe the coaches will see CJ's comments and realize he can't handle 4 positions. He'll play less and those already in won't have their backs to the play calls. If he hasn't told this to his coaches, shame on him. If the coaches need to read a GG expose on it shame on them. I'm thinking this gets corrected soon. either way someone needs to cover the wheel route, and Pelini had no answer for either.
