Thinking of making old fashioneds for Christmas Eve. Does anyone have a good holiday recipe or should I just stick with the original?

1 TBSP of this to 2 or 3 Oz of Sazerac Rye. Luxardo cherry and orange peel. Easy and so good

I tinkered with this last weekend.
Made simple syrup with brown sugar but threw some cloves in while it heated and then strained out.
Came out pretty damn good.
Also subbed orange bitters for Angostura.

Original but use a "spicy" rye instead of a bourbon

usually

3oz of something cheap. BT, Bulleit, Saz, usually a rye
splash of simple
3 dashes of Fee Brothers Black walnut bitters
Orange peel
Sometimes a cherry and a tad bit of juice I want it a little sweeter

ETA: call me crazy, but I'm not a fan of Luxardo cherries. I'd rather the cheap maraschinos

I am a traditionalist. Like bourbon, but my son in law asked if I had ever had an Old Fashoned made with tequila. Anyone here ever tried it?

Make your own simple syrup using dark brown sugar or buy syrup d'saison.
Use rye whiskey

Fill shaker with ice, whiskey, simple syrup.

Several dashes of anagustra bitters. One or two dashes of orange bitters.

Put ice and luxardo cherries in glass.

Shake and strain into glass.

Garnish with orange.
