North Central Louisiana Stream Fishing

I grew up in central Louisiana, attended LSU, and then lived in south Louisiana (Lafourche Parish) for 45 years and now retired. I loved the area and especially the saltwater fishing; unfortunately, our fishing camp just north of Catfish Lake only has pilings left after Hurricane Ida and our home flooded plus had substantial roof damage.
We are closing on a home five miles east of Pineville near Libuse. I will be closer to my deer hunting, but I would like to start small steam or creek fishing for spotted bass and other centrachids in the Kisatchie National Forest near the Red Dirt WMA and north of Pineville. Any suggestions? I am not asking for honey holes, but general advice would be appreciated. PM me if you would prefer.
I am a retired marine fisheries biologist from the Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries, and follow all rules and regulations and do not litter.

A lot of those lakes are good for fishing, especially west of Ellic.

I grew up fishing that area. It's pretty easy, actually. A h&h or beetle spin is really all you need.
Find a log that creates a bit of current, cast right along that on either side and if you can, let the lure fall under the log.
Or, throw into cypress knees, things like that.
It is really bass fishing 101 on those creeks. I definitely wish I lived closer so I could do it more often up there.

Kisatchie bayou is great. Calcasieu river and whiskey Chitto are great to float and full of fish. Behind the dam at Toledo is a little far but it’s one of my favorite places

Correct on the H&H and beetle spin. One thing to add, some of the creeks have "jack fish" (pike) so you may want to look at adding a metal leader to keep them jacks from cutting your line.

Not to hijack this post. I was born raised in Natchitoches. Moved south to Lafayette area in the 80’s. My dad set up an rv inside Golden Meadow 20+ yrs ago. Fished catfish lake area for last 20 years. Replaced rv last month , the marsh has changed big time and not in a good way.
With all that said , Most of my childhood friends have moved on. Im back in natchitoches caring for elderly family , and I love the outdoors. I’d be interested in getting into some stream fishing too. PM me if you would care for a little company. Safety in Numbers ..
