Exactly. All the school is required to do is provide the OPPORTUNITY to earn a degree. Whether the player/student wants to actually do the necessary coursework to earn one is on him.

Perhaps for the individual, but it ultimately doesn't benefit society as a whole if school are simply just "handing" out degrees. If everyone has a degree than there is nothing special about having a degree.
