Say an OL recruit accepts $150,000.00 NIL deal with Texas, what is to keep him from hitting the Portal after one season?

Nothing. Ewers just did this to Ohio State and ended up at UT

The market will work itself out

The contract might be on a yearly basis or if they transfer it’s voided. Just a guess.

There’s nothing preventing that. I do think you can write up a contract that can hold up in a court of law but, then you would be busted by the NCAA for having a “pay for play” deal since you wrote the contract with stipulation that the athlete in question would be paid based on competing at a certain school

NIL is not affiliated with the school. I don’t know what is so hard to understand

Most of the state laws that allow/govern these deals also prohibit pay-for-play. In other words, the contract cannot be contingent on the player being at a specific school.

NIL is not tied to the school. It is a corporation paying a individual person and is in no way affiliated with the school. That person actually has to have permission from the school in order to do advertisements with the school’s logo on it.

So if they sign a contract and the player leaves the school then the corporation still has to pay out the contract.

I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand. It's called "Name, Image, and Likeness" deals for a reason. It allows the athlete to make money off of their name, image, & likeness.
The athletes are not getting paid from the schools they play for & they're not signing deals to stay at a school for 3-4 yrs.
For both parties involved (company & athlete), it would make the most sense to only sign 1 yr deals. What if the player gets injured/benched & is not as popular the next season... company doesn't make as much $ off of players NIL. What if the player wins the heisman & is the most popular player in the country next year... probably deserves a new deal for more money.

Most of them are just one-off deals, not for any specific length of time.

But most likely it can be contingent on the player living in a certain area. If a kid comes to LSU and signs an NIL deal with a local restaurant (non-chain), then transfers to UCLA, I think that some clause in the contract would allow for the termination of the deal. It's not pay for play. It is simple marketing.

One would think this would be legal and a workaround to pay for play limitations.

Ewers $1.4MM deal is a 3 year autograph deal with a marketing company. I'm not sure they mind him switching from OSU to UT as long as he starts somewhere!

It is not supposed to be linked to any college but I have my doubts about that.

Sure, but again, virtually none of them are time-based deals anyway. People are "what-about-ing" a problem that doesn't exist.

I'm pretty sure Ewers had to start 4 games to get the big bag though he was paid some from what I understand.

Gotta be conditions like above or all the lineman at tu and ATM can collect this year and get the hell out after a year or two more.
