I will look into it after an established weightlifting routine.
Only have money for one gym

Elite Fitness by CCL wins the parking lot car title. It’s amazing to watch the money come and go from that place.

Bumping this…
What is the general opinion of Orangetheory? I’m about to take my first introductory class here. I’m very much a novice with working out, goals are to build strength and overall health. I’m thin as a rail so weight loss is not a goal.

Well then orangetheory is not gonna be a good place for you. It's pretty much all cardio.
Why not join a regular gym and follow greyskull or 531 boring but big or kinobody?

Because I want a group and need coaching. Plus, I just finished my first session and I enjoyed it. It was a lot of cardio though.

That's fine but don't expect to reach your goals. Hoesntly would be better with crossfire to build muscle compared to orange theory

If I prove to myself that I'm going to stay with it, I'll research other programs. This is going to be a starting step for me. I'm just so lost in the gym and don't seem to have the determination to do that several times a week. I have gym in my apartment complex and will supplement the program with weights there. Maybe learn to do some type of leg exercises with dumb bells.

Goblet squat, lunges, read foot elevated split squats, knees over toes split squats, straight leg deadlift, glute bridges
Plenty of them

Also crossfit looks painful and injury inducing. I am just starting to deadlift and squat with barbells and dumbbells.
If you listen and don’t try and do something you should be doing (like any other workout) you won’t get hurt

Lol idk of they will take me for CrossFit. It looks very intimidating
Every gym I’ve ever gone to or dropped in it at is 95% nice people who are happy to introduce themselves and welcome you in.
If you’re a douche then people will not like you, and yeah every gym has that 1 guy who’s an a-hole

BJJ looks intense and is a great martial art. But i also understand if someone wants to lose weight, the Krava /ufc gyms are good for cardio.
And BJJ isn't good for cardio? You'd be puking 4 minutes into a serious roll.

Orange Theory and the like are essentially HIIT classes, but not really HIIT.
I wish they had a few gyms with more than 1-2 freaking power racks. Seriously thinking about getting a rack and weights for the house but I don't know where I would put it and I'm not like you crazy people that can lift outside in LA heat.

Orange theory is good for a while. Hot girls and yes your cardio will get betterm.the weightlifting is good but then you can plateau .

I burn over 900 calories avg in an hour at Orange Theory. No it isn't a gym, but it certainly isn't a gimmick center.

Look into Iron Tribe. About to open second location on Perkins between Essen and Bluebonnet. CrossFit style workouts taught in a group class setting.
It’s done wonders for me.

I have a strong running background, and did orange theory for about 2 years when it first came out with my wife. Gets you in really good cardio shape but that’s about it. The weightlifting is designed more for the average soccer mom and not anyone who is serious about lifting. Everything is geared towards cardio even on the weight floor. After 2 years I could smoke a timed treadmill run but my back squat and other lifts really suffered.
If you are rail thin I wouldn’t advise it unless you eat a ton. You’ll burn 600-700 cals a class no problem. I quit because I lost so much muscle mass

Try out the CrossFit dark side. You’ll learn Olympic lifting from a legit coach and get the community it sounds like you are looking for. Every workout has multiple scaled options that the coaches can tailor to your fitness level.

Thank you. This is where I’ll likely end up. I’ve now been doing the morning workout for 5 outta 10 days so that’s a step in right direction.
My plan will be Orangetheory and supplement dumbbells for 3 months to build the habit, then make a move to something involving more lifting.

Did you really bump this old thread to pimp your shitty crossfit gym Gordon?

Again, Krav is fake mcdojo bullshite and you seem oddly opposed to doing Jiu Jitsu for whatever reason so how about you not waste your time on martial arts and just join a regular gym. Idgaf if you do BJJ, but Krav isn’t it and the guys who do it can’t fight
You would be better of taking boxing or Muay Thai than Krav Maga if you don't want to grapple.
