Fleming's, imo.
(I haven't been to Sullivan's in forever... but Fleming's beats out the other two.)

i still think if you're just talking about the steak itself and not the atmosphere, service, etc. .. i still think ruth's has the best ..

Ruths Chris has completely fallen off in the last few years.

Ruth's plates are so hot they continue to cook the steak - not cool when I cut a med-rare bite and the plate turns it to med-well before I can get the bite in my mouth.
I like Doe's and Sullivan's.

I cannot even consider Doe's in the same ballpark as the rest. The steak I had there was barely a Choice cut. I put Does in the same field as an overpriced Texas Roadhouse. Sullivans isnt great either.. If I had to have a prime steak I would go to Ruths or Flemmings here.

For the record, Sullivan's serves choice beef and in my opinion is merely a nightclub masquerading as a steakhouse.
I would add Vic's to the list in place of Club Sully's.

Flemings is great, I'm not big on Sullivan's or Ruth Chris's. I tried Does for the first time a few days ago. Pretty good, huge arse steaks. My steak was overcooked a good bit though.

Last two times I ordered a steak medium, they came out blackened. Was like eating a piece of charcoal.
I've had no desire to go back since then, but there quality was going downhill anyway.

Well for this weeks "Best Steak" thread I pick my own. I cooked two prime NY Strips and two prime ribeyes bought from Calandros and the wife, myself and the neighbors enjoyed them with a couple of bottles of wine and Gris Gris's crash hot potatos as well as a wedge salad.
Neighbors birthday and since I wake her arse up cutting my grass at 5am it was the least I could do.

That's what I'd vote as well.
But if I'm going out somewhere in town, Fleming's gets my vote as well.
I like Doe's a lot though, maybe I just got lucky when I went, but it was a very tasty bone-in ribeye, and huge. Not as good as Fleming's, and it's a totally different atmosphere, but the steak was not bad.

Well of course that is always my vote as well a big reason I rarely ever visit high end steakhouses. I choose to spend that money on a restaurant that put thought into its entree.

Sometimes it's just really nice to have someone wait on you, do the cooking, clean the dishes, etc... and Fleming's, in my experience, has some of the best service in town.

This has only been stated by 50,000 people on the Food board.

yea I go to a nice restaurant that has a chef to get that experience.. Steak is a very uninspiring meal at many steakhouses. Basically they cook it to your specs then throw it on a plate with items that are very boring. now I LOVE steak but why pay for Ruth Chris when you can have Commanders Palace or many other places where you can get a devine experience for the same price?
Posted on 10/1/08 at 5:47 pm to Catman88
Because steak is the best food ever invented.

possibly the best steak i have ever had in my life was at mansur's in its old location behind coffee call.
