If he's getting a significant raise and that seems to be likely I can't fault him for chasing money.

People need to stop trying to explain things. No here knows why or how these decisions are being made.

That man has been trying to move up for 7 years. It’s about money and him trying to advance.

And I know it’s not extreme like California, but Louisiana has state taxes, Florida doesn’t, so that’s even more he gets to keep. And honestly, I would rather live in Florida than Louisiana with the disparity in leadership too.

So you would turn down an estimated $200k a year pay raise?
Y’all say stuff like this as if it’s a knock on the man. Coaching is his job and he was offered a huge raise somewhere else. I don’t blame him one bit for taking it.

I’d assume he just wanted a change. Kids are out the house, pay was probably better, maybe he liked Napier better than Kelly.

I wouldn’t join my competitors for any amount of $. There I said it. Titles don’t mean shite. Loyalty is worth a hell of a lot more.

Tell me how you’ve never advanced in your career without telling me you haven’t advanced in your career

Maybe there was not a spot on the LSU staff. He did bring in a new guy on the defensive side of the ball. Like someone else said, he might be looking to improve his resume and get a DC job or a head coach in the sunbelt.

I don't know, is Assistant Head Coach of Defense an advancement? Seems like a BS title. There may be some things we don't know about, but he had a stable, nice paying job at his alma mater. UF has cycled through two new coaching staffs in 7 years. Not exactly stable in any way.

It's really not.
Especially in an industry where you can get fired for a bad a few weeks.

Why do people apply different standards of loyalty to assistant college football coaches than they do to every other profession?
In what alternative universe would any of us turn down the job Raymond just took, in the same situation?
Multiyear contract at over $1M per versus no job at all? Because "loyalty"? Explain that to your SO.

Maybe $. Maybe not. Could be he needs a change and respects Napier. Could be he sees himself as “stuck” as a DB coach and making a move to a new institution might be a way of proving he’s looking to do more. Could be he’s tired of something about LSU is looking for a new set of headaches. Could be BK wasn’t looking to retain him. I doubt SW would let UF outbid him for someone his new coach wanted.
