BTTF unnecessary risk

So Doc certainly expected the experiment to work… “If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 mph you’re gonna see some serious shite.” But he obviously had never performed the experiment before.
So, wouldn’t it have been much safer/smarter to stand off to the side rather than directly in the path of the car? Marty and Doc could have easily been ran over and killed!
I love Back to the Future (all three), it’s one of those movies that I watch every time it’s on

He knew the Syrians were going to get him either way. If this doesn't work he's toast.

What if his calculations were off and his Delorean disappeared for 100 years instead of 1 minute?

Doc had spent his entire family fortune in the lead up to that moment, he had nothing to lose at that point. Kinda dickheaded to risk Marty's life

You definitely just watched the Corridor Crew react video, didn’t you?

The bigger question is why does Marty McFly have an issue of the Library Science periodical RQ on his bookshelf?

Doc was psychotic and just kept getting lucky.
The proof of concept for time travel was done with his pet dog in the car, instead of say, going to the pet store and getting a feed mouse or something that would be both dispensable and proven the exact same concept, plus mice are better analogues to human beings for testing anyway.
This is of course, if the true safest option for test 1 (just put the stopwatch in the car) was not feasible due to needing to perform a live tissue test and not wanting to waste plutonium.

Or that confident that his experiments were going to work.

He was shocked in 1955 that anything of his worked, and in the intro in 1985 he’s well aware that his giant amplifier had a problem, and his “synchronizing all the clocks exactly 10 minute late” isn’t much of an accomplishment.

He already knew it was going to work. He had already lived thru the events of Marty traveling back in time and he already knew he was going to get shot.

Don't you put me in that logic loop, baw!

Exactly why he was confident his experiment would work.

Marty recorded it while it was happening then goes into the past and finds Doc…he gets home from school and finds Doc watching the events on tv from the camcorder…Doc knew what was going to happen
