Then Kiffin let O know they were keeping it to simple during the bye week. Shake my head that a man with as many years on the defensive side of the ball had to be told by another coach that he was only running base defense.

What do you mean “had to be told”?

Just looked at the interview again and O response to Lane was “I know”. Meaning lane didn’t tell
Him the defense he was running. Jones was just keeping it basic. right after that O says he went look at the tape for how they played Bama a few years before when he was at Tennessee. And they used that defense. It seems the narrative that O let jones dictate the D for Bama is probably Not true. That was O going back to the 3-3 with blitzes drawn up by Coyle.

Regardless, Hopefully we can upgrade from Jones with the DC hire.

Same people wanted some combo of Jorge Munoz/Mangis/Callaway as OC the past two years with this well it wouldn't hurt my feelings if we retain this guy who "got better" and doesn't recruit or develop young players.

I don't know who did what but the last 4 games were night and day to the point that defense was probably close to tops in the country stat wise. Scoring defense was much improved as well. Last 4 games this D allowed 308,283,311,& 296 yds and thrre of those teams were ranked...
So someone needs to explain how this staff and roster of 3rd stringers pulled that off. It was not just playing on opportunity and emotion. We completely flip flopped the pressure tendencies and took a lot more risks on secondary coverage. Everyone on the D looked like different players.
