ND is in a sawed off little area that nobody wants to be in and only the school is appealing. The main reason Freeman was picked as the new HC, outside of his potential as a young up and comer they don't want to lose, is his recruiting. Without a good recruiter there, ND is snake food. Kelly had to improve ND's image as still being a top dog to get guys there. From 1994 to 2011 Notre Dame was only a middling program with just two double digit winning seasons in an 18 year span. They only finished ranked 7 years in that span and only had one top 10 finish.

In that same span LSU finished ranked 12 times with 10 of those 12 times coming from 2000-2001. LSU finished with 10+ wins 8 times in that same ND span with 7 coming between 2001 and 2011. Those 7 times were all top 10 finishes to boot along with 3 national championship appearances and 2 wins.

That blueblood shite is irrelevant nowadays.
