The Alabama senate race has turned into a complete shitshow. But oddly enough I was listening to a candidate from the Democratic side name Robert Kennedy Jr. No. No relation.

This is the first time I've ever heard of him so I'm sure there's stuff I don't know. But no shite if the race were held today I would strongly consider voting for him over any of the Republican candidates.

Sure. In Alabama it really doesn't make a difference. But this dude is squared away

Both of the Dem candidates are decent options - Kennedy and Doug Jones.

The Republican side is a clown show right now with 2 trying to prove more fealty to Trump than the other, and Bible beating Roy Moore. Read this morning McConnelle's PAC is likely to spend $8 million in advertising for Luther Strange in this race. That is just absurd, and most everyone I know is already tired of the TV ads.

Imagine if Nick Saban ran as a Democrat

Tuscaloosa's mayor is running for Governor as a Dem. It will be interesting to see if he gets an endorsement from Saban.

You would put a Dem in a senate seat?

Have you bumped your head?

true. I wonder. Is this a function of them being Alabama Democrats or is it a function of the fact that in Alabama Democrats really not competitive Statewide? Does that cause the crazy Democrats to basically sit on the sidelines so all you're left with is the rational ones?

Because I'll tell you right now. People on this site laugh when I say I'm not a republican I'm a conservative but the reality is if I woke up in an alternate reality we're all of the Democrats sounded like Robert Kennedy Jr I might be a Democrat

Really I started this thread to highlight that it isn't a requirement for Democrats to be batshit crazy like almost all of the ones in Washington are

Nothing in politics is permanent. Kennedy is a black man who probably would be embarrassed to be stuck in the same room with Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee.

Candidates

Out of the dark horses I suppose I would vote for Randy Brinson.

No way in the world would I vote for a Dem to fill a senate seat.

You must also have awoken in an alternate reality where democrats in southern states actually tell the truth about their beliefs, like "blue dog" Bel Edwards who is a far left tax and spend corrupt liberal.

The state Dem party has been in such a mess for several years now, I think the rational ones are just now feeling confident to run. Not sure why now. The party is still a mess with crappy leadership, and they won't be getting much support from the national DNC. But I guess they have to start somewhere. People have been clamoring for Jones to run for office for years now.

The odds A Want would support Kennedy are basically nil.

Why would I vote for him?

1. Calling the Republican primary campaigns juvenile would be an insult to juveniles.

2. It wouldn't matter because the seat would STILL stay Republican

and, before you look at #2 and think, "well that's like voting for repeal when it can't pass".....

3. I think this country would be a LOT better off if the Democrats had more people like Kennedy in prominence and, even though he'll lose in the general, the more viable he seems, the greater his national exposure will be.

Democrats, ESPECIALLY minority democrats, need to hear this guy and realize you don't have to be a bat shite crazy a-hole to be a Democrat.
