So we're just ditching innocent until proven guilty?
Posted on 11/26/23 at 10:41 pm to udtiger
Someone should add an amendment...no right to vote if charged with felony.

It’s late and I didn’t have the energy to go digging for clarity, but it’s saying that you can lose your 2A right to bear arms if you’re only charged? If that’s the case then no, I’m not comfortable with that at all. You shouldn’t lose your rights before a conviction is decided upon.

It doesnt say anything about charged or covicted

For those charged? Unconstitutional.
For those convicted - if a felony, maybe, depending on the circumstances. We all know how this goes down. Wife goes crazy, picks up something to hit husband with, husband swats it out of her hand. She calls 911, her word against his. Men always lose in court. Dude has his guns taken away. She files for divorce, takes everything, he is destitute, has nothing, lives in the slums, gets robbed and assaulted, has no way to defend himself, and he's dead.
This is another slippery slope. Domestic violence will morph into 'threats' or 'threatening environment' etc.
This bill should be a non-starter.

You so called conservatives disgust me. You're not conservatives at all if you support this. The 2nd Amendment is crystal clear. No interference from the government. If they're not incarcerated then the government has no right to infringe on their Constitutional right to possess firearms.

I served with a guy whose wife tried to ruin his career by claiming a false domestic violence charge. She dropped it but he still got an article 15 for it because he was on the blotter report.
So no, I don't support this. All it takes is one lie.

Take the guns first. Due process second I always say.

And what happens to the broad if it's found she was lying? Add something for that and we can maybe talk.

You have too much faith in the govt if you don’t think they can’t make you a convicted felon.

What part of shall not be infringed do y’all not get?

I thought there was already an ATF rule that covered this.

Exactly.
We can all recall that to the left, silence is violence.
If that can be violence then why can't telling her that she looks fat also be violence?

Here are the sponsors and there are no surprises.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal [D-CT] Sen. Ron Wyden [D-OR] Sen. Robert Casey [D-PA] Sen. Jeff Merkley [D-OR]
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen [D-NH] Sen. Patty Murray [D-WA] Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse [D-RI] Sen. Mazie Hirono [D-HI]
Sen. Richard Durbin [D-IL] Sen. John Fetterman [D-PA] Sen. Bernard Sanders [I-VT] Sen. Tammy Baldwin [D-WI]
Sen. Tim Kaine [D-VA] Sen. Christopher Coons [D-DE] Sen. Laphonza Butler [D-CA] Sen. Tammy Duckworth [D-IL]
Sen. Elizabeth Warren [D-MA] Sen. Chris Van Hollen [D-MD] Sen. Amy Klobuchar [D-MN] Sen. Alex Padilla [D-CA]
Sen. Christopher Murphy [D-CT]
People need to go to the link and read this. 17 page pdf. This will be expansive, goes way beyond felony conviction, expands definitions and group compositions, will pertain to things like restraining orders, and comes with a grant program for enforcement so it expands government and dedicates funds specifically to have people available to take guns and ammunition away from people. If the Democrats win in 2024, this will become law. An unconstitutional law, but a law nonetheless.
And the statute will require enforcement by state and local LE, meaning they can tie govt funding to this and not give state/locals any discretion in these matters.
This is just another end-around to destroy the Second Amendment and continue the attack on men in this country.
I will VETO this as President. Every candidate in the race should address this Bill immediately.
If it's passed prior to taking office, not only will I refuse to enforce it, I will terminate the grant program and send that money elsewhere. I will then direct the AG to investigate every member of Congress voting for or sponsoring this for conspiracy to violate rights under color of law.
Bottom line they are seeking to remove your constitutional right to keep and bear arms without an adjudication carrying a burden of proof that is reasonable to contemplate such a measure.
Also, the entire pretext of the bill is sexist, which would make it unconstitutional. It's all devoted to protecting women in domestic violence situations. Anyone that's spent more than a few days as an adult knows there is a profound level of domestic violence by females, and this bill ignores that. And everyone is generally aware of the bias against men in the court system when it comes to domestic violence, penalties for things like sexual abuse etc. The premise for this bill violates the 14th Amendment and places men in a disadvantaged class to lose their rights, be at increased risk of harm etc.
This is an attack on men, guns, rights, and due process. It should surprise no one when looking at the sponsors. Every presidential candidate should be addressing this bill and exposing Democrats.

It’s a felony for a convicted felon to possess a firearm in every state. That is sufficient.

All you gotta do is read the sponsors to know it's gonna be something dumb as frick

bullshite gun-grabber law. Nothing more needs to be said just by looking at the list of sponsors.

Well considering "silence is violence", give it 5 years and the definition of domestic violence will be so broad, no one will be able to buy a gun.
