I can field this one - it's b/c Gaetz wants media and attention. Like a combo of trump-esque insecurity and just plain stupidity.

McCarhty didn't adhere to the deal made when they elected him as speaker.

Gaetz had specific demands in order to throw his support behind McCarthy. Those demands related to votes on specific policies, a change in procedures including the omnibus method of budget bill wiring and the amount of time given to review bills before calling for a vote, and specific personnel decisions (ie committee assignments and leadership roles.) McCarthy not only agreed, but he changed the rules to allow for one conference member to call a vote to vacate.

McCarthy did none of the things he promised, and in an unprecedented and shocking move, Gaetz utilized the power given to him by McCarthy himself to hold him accountable.

It's scary because it's new. These people usually face no consequences for their lies. McCarthy was an example for all future leaders on what happens when you relinquish power and then don't fulfill your mandate.

It is. He was very transparent during the vote and told everyone exactly how it would go down if McCarthy reneged on his promises. The fact that him doing exactly what he said he'd do if it came to it is causing such an extreme pearl clutching reaction proves just how fricked up our federal government has become.

Gaetz is a valuable asset in the house. His willingness to pull back the curtain and speak openly on the disfunction of Congress is refreshing and should be eye opening for many.

McCarthy was going to give the dems everything they wanted so he could get 1 win with border control. Investigations into the DOJ/ FBI and Biden dropped. Impeachment inquiry dropped. So of the 12 things discussed that they wanted to move forward with he was going to lose 11 to win 1....frick him.
