Why is Colin Hurley only a 3 star composite on 247?

I admittedly am not the recruiting guy of knowledge because the entire process to me is bullshite until they actually sign the papers. This kid is talked about a lot though in the same manner of Walker Howard when he was coming up. The little video I’ve seen of him though it’s obvious he has an effortless cannon on him like Nussmeier and Myles Brennan had. He’s listed at 6’0 so maybe he’s a bit short but with his huge hair he’s at least 6’7”. Listened to his interview with Moscona and he seems to be a very mature kid who is actually living up a class and graduating early so he might actually only be 17 when he first gets to BR he still might have another inch or two on him to grow.

He will end up being a 4 star top 150 when all said and done. A lot of sites are behind on him because he reclassified.

He is a 3 star on 247, but his 247 composite is 133. Still ranked way too low IMO. He'll shoot up the rankings by the time it's done though.

I think it’s a combination of a few things:
-Youth- he’ll be 17 in year one on campus
-Size and mobility- He’s just over 6 ft and built thick for a QB at his age. His mobility is average with a below average height
-Evaluation- I don’t think the recruiting sites have put a lot of time into evaluating the class he came from. He was a top 30 player though on 247.
He should really make a nice climb in the next year. He has a live arm, has great timing and anticipation, has great touch, makes great reads, throws well on the run, is extremely accurate, and is a hard worker. He has everything you want in a QB, including leadership, but just doesn’t have the elite measurables that don’t always define great QBs anyway.

Too early for all of that. He needs to bump his completion percentage up for the site gurus to move him up. He has everything else they’re asking for.

That kid has the “it” factor.

IMO he ends up being 6’ 2” at LSU. He’s still growing.
What I like the most at this point is his arm talent. It’s strong and accurate. Accuracy is something you are born with and Colin has it. Has a lot to do with his very strong base from which he delivers the ball.

Yes, but…. He needs to get his completion % above 60%, or at least close. He was 53% last year. Plus he needs to run the friggin ball a bit. Negative rushing yards over 2 seasons is a red flag for me. Dude talks like a 30 yo vet, though, so I suspect he knows where he needs to improve.

He committed already and it wasn’t to alabama

Why does he need to run? He's not a running QB. That makes no sense.

I’m not saying he needs to be a running quarterback, but find me a top college QB with negative rushing yards. I’ll sit and wait.

Wait, so let me get this straight you're criticizing a pass first QB for not running enough? This board criticizes JD's run ability enough for looking to run first.
Which do you want? He's not a mobile QB. He doesn't need to use his legs for 1st downs. The only thing his legs need to do is extend a play to throw. That's it. If he can slide in the pocket he's perfectly okay with negative yardage rushing.

He should change his name to Colin Manning

I don’t know , he’s already committed to LSU so that’s working against him already. No surprises no clicks no improvement

Probably because he's frigging 15 years old

56% completion rate and only a 2 to 1 TD/INT ration...in 2A ball.
Myeh. Hopefully that's based on other factors but it's not promising.

He lead his team to state titles as an 8th grader and 9th grader. How many QBs do you know that have done that, regardless of his HS classification

I think accuracy is a real issue with him. I watched his 7-7 clips from Miami and he missed a lot. I get that he's the "next great one" for us and I agree with everyone's expectations there. He's still very young and has most of his football growth ahead of him. You can't teach his natural gifts, which are obvious. He's just not anywhere close to what he will be by the time he steps on the campus at LSU.

I'm criticizing him for not rushing at all. You better be T. Brady or Drew Brees completing 70% if you're not going to run for a single yard.
