We now have 9 scholarships to give...

...that's a ton.
Gonna have to play heavily in the portal come May. And anybody from 2024 looking to reclassify? Come see Coach Kelly about an offer, especially if you're an offensive lineman.

Car-Dell is one wasted scholarship now up for the taking

They'll get guys they feel they need to get in the spring portal. No need to fill all 9 if the right kids aren't available. Use the leftovers on walk-ons as we normally do. Always need extra numbers for next year.

You don't want to fill spots just for the sake of filling spots. We're in much better shape than a year ago. I figured we'd start the season under 85.

I only count 8 to give, but maybe you're missing either Josh Williams and Damian Ramos.

At least 4-5 after spring. The coaches have this.

I'm not counting Ramos.
I do expect that he'll get a scholarship.
We had six open, and then Walker Howard, Jack Mashburn and Kardell Thomas came off.
So yes, with Ramos it's eight.
But right now you only have 12 offensive linemen on scholarship. We're three short of the 15 you really want to carry and while the 12 we have look better than 12 we've had in the past, we're not where we need to be.
And we're a couple short at linebacker.
Beyond that, I'd be fine with giving out three scholarships to walkons. Greg Clayton, Javen Nicholas, Princeton Malbrue, Nick Demas, GiVanni Peterson - we have a few guys who might be worthy of picking up a remaining scholarship.
But I don't think we have walkons at linebacker or offensive line quite good enough that we could just elevate them and consider our depth good enough. We're going to have to find some guys, even if they're program players we're not expecting to come in and compete for jobs.

They may add a fr or two in Feb as well

And we’ll lose some more after spring as well

I guess 12 is the number. I was at 13, but then I remembered Fitz West has apparently moved to DT.
I would expect LSU to bring in 1-2 OLmen before next fall.

Watching West in the bowl game, you want him at DT or NG. He's legit there and you can project him as a starter by 2024.
Besides, 6-2 is a little short on the offensive line nowadays.

Probably 3-5 walk ons will get scholarships
1-2 high school players
3-5 portal players

3-5 portal players

We can take as many as we want this cycle. If we had to make room we could just process guys. Surprised we didn't take more flyers on fringe La hs guys.

I agree. LSU is in good shape at center with Turner, Martinez, Chester, and Mubenga.
