Who saw the first Star Wars Movie when it first came out?

I'm curious what your thoughts were and if it had a big impact on you.
I remember the night quite well. People were raving about the movie but could not explain it in a way that I could understand what all the hoopla was about. It was also kind of underground in that only young people were rushing to the theatre to see it. I remember being quite keyed up after seeing movie and all the special effects which I had never seen before. It ushered in a new era in cinema special effects. It changed movie making for ever.
It was simply one of those rare movies where you had to see it to understand what it was since it was like nothing you had ever seen before.

unfortunately it was a tad before my time - I did, however, see Return in the theater.

I was 3 or 4 and it was my first movie. I remember there was a long arse line outside of some rinky dink 2 screen theater in BR that no longer exists. I honestly don't remember my experience at the movies itself, but pretty soon after I had Star Wars bed sheets, lunch box, and of course lots of toys.

I was 7 and I saw it at the University Theater at LSU (since torn down). It was cold and the lines were long. Saw it about 3 or 4 times at the theater...we could not get enough. I thought the Storm Troopers were incredibly intriguing.

I was 17, made out the entire movie. I dont remember much about it. Saw it again about 2 weeks later, meh.

We went to see it at the drive in theater. We had on our pajamas and were watching out the back window which was rolled down. Loved it.

It was my senior year in high school. I thought it was great but it wasn't that big a deal to people my age. All of the elementary school aged kids were the ones that went gaga over it.
When I got to college the next year I realized it was important to a lot of people my age too.

I didn't want to see it at first because, if you watch the old trailers, it was marketed as a love story in space; with a giant monkey and some robots. I was under 10 years old, so I didn't want to see a love story. I finally broke down after the trailers changed to show it as an action-adventure. It was awesome, but not life-changing.
Jurassic Park affected me more at age 25 or 26 than Star Wars did at 9.

The Darth Vader/Father reveal was probably the most shocking movie scene in the history of cinema.
The internet is great but there will never be a moment like that reveal ever again because of the 10,000,000,000 movie sites that have already read the script for most movies, 2 years before they come out.
Lucas really was a genius tying all of the merchandising into the movie. Every kid had a zillion Star Wars action figures.

I was 6. My older cousin took me to see it. At the Brookfield Square Twin cinema. I don't remember much about it. I think we went to see it again a few days later. I saw the Empire Strikes Back in the theater when it came out and haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies since.

I remember seeing Return in the theaters on the first day...that was an event...we were allowed to cut school and the line wrapped around the block. I only remember it well because some dork (who was reading the book in front of me) announced to all of us that Darth Vader really was Luke's father and some parents chewed him out.
So impact was I remember that and the movie sucked then and still sucks. Total disappointment.

Yeah, those Star Wars figures were awesome. I had everyone of them and it bothered me greatly that my parents only got me 1 Sand person (Tusken Raider)and 1 Stormtrooper. I certainly needed no less than 4 Stormtrooper in order for my battles to look realistic.

I don't remember my parents even buying me one. Meanwhile I had a buddy with those official collectors cases full of the fricking things.

I was in law school and had gone to the Paramount to see something (Woody Allen, I think). Before that film rolled, the trailer (coming attractions) came up for the feature film for the following week, Star Wars. No one had ever heard of it. One look and I was back next week for the first feature showing of it in town. It was, and still is, great.

I do...it was at the Plaza in the twin city mall in Monroe. The line was wrapped around Selber Bros.

How is this even possible? Unless you just never watch movies (which I doubt because you're posting on a movie internet board), it blows my mind that you haven't seen one of the original 3 movies at least once given how popular they've been for 30+ years.
