Some movies that will actually have some real scares and good for halloween. But not some gore show or with highly disturbing elements.

Poltergeist is a movie that comes to mind. Despite the clown scene which F'd with me a bit as a kid.

Blair Witch Project
The Ring
Paranormal Activity
The Babadook

Very little gore in any of these. Not sure of your kids ages or what you mean exactly by highly disturbing elements. Anything non gory but scary will likely involve the supernatural.

The Conjuring. No killing, just one body shown. Very little if any adult language.

A kid might get scared with the Dementors in Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Monsters Inc.

Scooby Doo Movies with Freddie Prinze Jr.

OG Ghostbusters

The Dark Crystal

Beetlejuice

Labyrinth

Gremlins may be the most scary for kids...

That movie fricked me up as a kid. Still won't watch it to this day. I couldn't understand why people thought those evil little bastards were funny.

Watched Five Nights at Freddy's last night.

I think it would be pretty good for family/kids.

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

Ferngully

Pretty sure all of these movies gave me at least one good nightmare as a kid.
