Politics aside, Louisiana has had a rough go the past decade. Remember in 2014 when Houma had one of the best small-city economies in the country. One oil crash and multiple hurricanes later, it's looking pretty rough around the bayou. Lake Charles was booming until they got walloped by two major hurricanes, historic flooding, and tornadoes in the span of 14 months. This state is cursed.

Should merge with Arkansas to get your economy back on track.

Edit: Merger should include a 5 year probationary period before the enfranchisement of the citizens of former Louisiana and an agreement to keep the capital in Little Rock.

We've had some bad luck but that's coupled with being the worst run state too.

When the idiots in the state constantly elect idiots, eventually you have to stop calling it luck.

I love Louisiana with all my heart, but I can’t see myself here much longer because everything is so fricked up all the time.

Louisiana is great for a lot of things, but also sucks a lot of arse for a lot of reasons as well.

huh? It had one thing going for it, oil service companies. Oil is one of the most fickle commodities, no way but to expect booms and bust if you’re entire economic plan rides on oil prices and fed handouts. It’s not unlucky per se

The disasters have always come. The leadership is corrupt. Louisiana fuels a huge segment of this Country. We are a welfare state where the welfare funds politicians.

The problem is the issues resulting from bad luck were never fixed so they just keep happening

The people of Louisiana throw their old refrigerators, TVs, and washing machines in every bayou they can reach. You cant drive a boat in this state anywhere without coming across piles of trash.

I have zero sympathy considering we dont respect the very unique landscape that we have.

I get your view but my thoughts are; take the good and try to change the bad (politics). I really enjoy the fishing and hunting all within an hour or less from my house. My area is strong conservative.

We had a pretty quiet span between Rita and Laura. It’s all a wash with a wide enough view. No more or less lucky than anywhere else, just our spotlight lately.

Still some eyesores from Laura around, sure, but LCH is very much still booming.

The tornado went through a couple neighborhoods today. It didn’t wipe LCH off the map.

I love the fishing. That, and the sports are my favorite parts of the state.

But after traveling the country, there’s so much more out there.

You should move with the rest of the OT to either Montana or Huntsville

Louisiana has a great culture and a lot of good people but there are a lot better places to put down roots and raise a family if that's something you desire. It's much easier to go somewhere else when you are younger too.

Absolutely true….every state has rough patches. It’s a lot easier to weather the storms if the citizens take personal accountability and elect good leadership.

Relying on one industry as a state isn't unlucky. It's fricking dumb.

That’s what I’m trying to do right now.

I’m scheduled to move to Dallas next year. I love it there and I’m really hoping to put my roots down there.

Louisiana is blessed with largest river port in North America, fertile land for growing anything and everything, vast oil resources, tourism center… yet you want to blame luck…

Preach.

I saw an instagram post earlier from a woke white gal in NOLA. It was an aerial shot of a neighborhood in the city. "Look at all these blue tarps!" I was 10% at most. I live 80 miles north of there and I see that many neighbors that neglect their roofs. Stop waiting for handouts.
