PBS Frontline just put out an episode on the Uvalde shooting (bodycams, 911 calls, etc)

The police chief should be in prison. I believe this even more so after watching this episode.
They initially assumed the shot classrooms had no kids in them because it was quiet, no kids were screaming….they assumed it was empty, in the middle of a school day.
They didn’t even realize that the building hadn’t been cleared and that there were kids hiding in the other classrooms until about half an hour into the whole thing. What the frick.
And the bodycam showing the cop telling everybody that his wife was lying shot in one of the classrooms….
This is not an easy episode to watch.

Did any of those dirtbags in charge get canned or shamed to quitting?

Chief finally had the general discharge/fired for cause placed on his service record just recently, but no criminal charges

1. Yes, he should be held accountable as he swore an oath to defend the Constitution and his community.
2. LEO is trained - now days - to go towards the driving force...whether that is screaming, shooting or visuals...if there's no driving force, you don't just go checking every classroom.
3. Comms in Uvalde was a clown show...they did not have a formal policy in place and regardless, too many diff. responding agencies showed up on scene with no previous training together re: active killer events.
4. That officer is still suffering to this day re: the lack of leadership shown by numerous individuals on that date...because of Uvalde, training is improving across the country but still is woefully inadequate.
5. Folks have no clue how bad the situation is in most communities re: future mass casualty events due to the shortage in LEOs, the dearth of qualified candidates who actually want to do the job in the light of the summer of love and burning and the budget crunches across the country where training funding is at an all time low.

They went immediately right to the correct classroom, got shot at, then retreated away for over an hour.

Did he ever actually show up in front of the city council or whatever to answer questions? I know he was dodging them, and attending those meetings when requested was a requirement.

You want a competent police force? Start pay at $70k in rural areas with a substantial pay ladder and keep the benefits the same. You’ll see a much higher quality of candidate show up.
Pay for law officers in rural America is pretty crappy across the board. IMO states should allow unions that can come up with better pension/ retirement to offset the low pay. Fully vest in 20 and have some tax breaks. And in doing so, that should also increase health/ fitness requirements and yearly training (re)qualifications.

It’s 95% bodycam footage and filmed law enforcement interviews that were taken during the official investigation. That’s what makes it so damning.
