Tell me about Central

Thinking about moving to Central. We looked at zachary and dutchtown, but central seems to be the right mix of good schools with the house/land in our budget. I have 2 kids under 2. What can you baws tell me about the schools? Is it a good place to raise a family?
NB4 "you call that living?"

The lower schools are good. Middle school ok. High school is just OK. The problem with Central is that it is still in EBRP. The cancer of BR is spreading, and it will (eventually) get Central too.

They are starting to export BRs finest into Central with more shitty neighborhoods and apartments on the way
You want to be safe? Move to the country.

It was great in the 80s.

The city is developing more and more. The next flood that happens will be worse than 2016.

Depends on what you think that means. It's a city that has kept to itself since it has been separate from BR. IMO, it feels like one giant echo chamber. They have a pretty good public school system for now. The only people I've heard say anything negative about it are family members who send their kids to Central Private, but I wouldn't take them seriously because they send their kids to Central Private.

A lot of people, including some of my family members, are pulling kids out of Central and sending them to Central Private.
Apparently the schools aren’t maintaining as they should and more and more riff raff is moving in. It’s not going to get better any time soon unfortunately. The city leadership has always been a joke and I’m sure it will continue to be that way.
Incorporation fixed the schools for about ten to fifteen years. That’s all it did. Central was better when I grew up in it as a kid. Also depending on where you work, you’ll have more traffic leaving and coming back every night than you probably expect.
Like above, you’re still in EBR Parish.

Too many people have moved in. The Central Thruway has ruined Central. Back in the day when it was Greenwell Springs and GS Road a quiet 2 lane road towards Magnolia Bridge, it was heaven. Now it’s good to shite thanks to so many moving there and the officials continue to allow building.

We checked their curriculum and they only offer two AP courses:
AP Studio Art: Drawing
AP Studio Art: 2-D Design
I'd be surprised if colleges accepted these.

That’s two more than they offered when I went there
My education there did allow me to test out of 17 hours at LSU

I mean, the people of Central want to live the country life of Central but will take all their traffic to Baton Rouge/Denham, so the Thruway is helping everyone out.
You really don't want Florida Blvd and Greenwell Springs backed up any worse than it is now.

Damn really? I took AP history and English when I was there. They had AP math, but I doubt I took it. Skipped my first 2 years’ worth of English at LSU between AP testing and LSU testing. Crazy to hear Central has dropped that drastically.

Doesn’t surprise me. If someone’s kids are actually capable enough and will be doing honors or AP then send them to Central. They will still be sharing a building with riff raff but in class peers will be perfectly fine. It’s just not rainbows and sunshine like some may say.

In his defense it might take 1000 years to finish the comite diversion canal

They don't have enough roads to handle the in/out of people going to work every day. The traffic is a bitch. The roads they do have are all beat to hell, except Central Thruway.

2020 average ACT at Central High School was 19.6 and they've been trending down for ~five years across the state. That simply cannot be a "good school"
.
